How do you keep up?

Dec 18, 2009 12:44

I've got an LJ account and a Facebook account. I think I have a MySpace account, but I never go there. And I seldom keep up with Facebook, either. It takes all my energy just to keep up on my LJ friends page. Let's not even talk about Twitter. (Not there, don't know if I ever will be.) So, tell me oh readers, where are you? Why? And how the hell ( Read more... )

Hey, I couldn't even find you to be introduced to you at Philcon, so that's a damned good indicator that I'm over-networked.

I think we may in fact have been at the same table a few times. I just tend to be very introverted around folks I don't know well in person. Once I know someone however, all bets are off. (It didn't help that autumnyte also had to spend most of the time in the hotel room still recovering.) I think the only "new" person I actually got to meet is popfiend.

Arisia's next in my schedule, followed by Wicked.

I'm on here, Facebook, and Twitter (which I use sparingly).

I have a feed from here to FB, so any public posts on LJ get posted over there as well. Twitter dumps to LJ once a day, so any of that goes to FB also.

I actually set aside time for LJ and Facebook. Honestly, it's not like I'm doing anything ELSE most nights! I don't monitor Twitter.

Here's the thing, though. I find I can easily enough move through my friends list in an evening, though if too much time goes by, it turns more into skimming than reading. And even less into commenting.

For Facebook? If I go more than a few *hours* between viewing it, I feel completely overwhelmed. Do you bother keeping up with *everything* or just catch as catch can?

Catch as catch can.

There is also a "Facebook lite" that removes things like quizzes and memes, leaving you with actual status updates.

I mainly use FB for games it seems, though there are folks that I maintain contact through there as it is their main.
LJ is still my first and formost, primarily as I get more well thought out and detailed updates here.

Updated my main entry with: My subject is the biggest part of my question: "How do you keep up?" What techniques do you actually use to keep up with others' posting on your social networks. I find the sheer volume overwhelming on the minimal number of sites I'm on.

And you echo my experience. But I find I can't even keep up on FB. I might try Hugh's approach -- the lite site. But I'm already doing a lot of that by filtering out games as they appear.

And how do you keep up with others there?

(And I'm realizing I forgot my tumblog at http://cyberthorn.tumblr.com/ where I post little things, as well as mirroring my delicious and LJ feeds.)
