Nothing Pitiful on Bright Summer Nights

Because I'm presently too unwound to work at a piece that will do justice to Taiwan (but then again, the only details supplied will be w regard to my 3-day RnR), allow me to settle, instead, for an account of my block leave.

Monday: anticipated, ate, and consequently swore off Terminal 3’s Pasta Waraku. Spent some time readjusting my sense of time on the ride home ( 1) David Cameron won. Huh. 2) Oil spill at Changi? You mean the Louisiana oil spill's gotten that much worse?)

The rest of my day was spent watching Tian Long Ba Bu and Shen Diao Xia Lv on youtube =/.

Tuesday: Woke up in time for lunch. Watched more Shen Diao Xia Lv. This was followed by a swim, yet more Shen Diao Xia Lv, and The Ghost Writer (2120, Cine).

Wednesday: Started the day by procuring Chinese music for myself (yes I have taiwan to thank for this). Predictably enough, the object of my attention soon shifted to SDXL. Sigh.

Lunch was half a tub of apple pie ice cream, Taiwanese sun biscuits, mochi, and slabs of peanut butter*.

I left the house at about 4. Went for Unhiddenness, a photo exhibit at Old School. The photographer was a Thai ex-police captain with links to Thammasat University (att historians!). The photos themselves were simple and fairly executed, black-and-whites capturing scenes from 'Old Thailand'.

Deeply nostalgic, but not a turn-off. I think it's like what one of the commentaries pointed out - it's clear he misses (the unmodern) manifestations of certain Thai objects/rituals/activities, though always, ultimately, respecting the (basic? transcendental?) essences of the things he captures. So there was never really an instance of the sentiment overpowering the subject.

After this, I made a trip to Ann Siang, to The Little Drom Store. Also made a stop at Trolley, a very appealing lifestyle/furniture store that was close by. When I feel comfortable spending money again, I'll be sure to get myself an artist wallet from the former, and a vintage notebook and plastic carrier from the latter. There were other things too of course, but they were all far, far beyond me XP.

Price -- a non-issue in Taiwan!

*there's something both admirable and wtf about this
