My Day

It. Is. Hot.

It has been hot all month. We have had virtually no rain, and even our humidity is trying to go away. This makes me a very, very uncomfortable Koren. Last weekend our AC died (luckily in this heat the apartment complex sees that as a perfectly justifiable reason to use the emergency maintenance pager and it was fixed by Sunday evening) and we spent most of it at wintermoon3 and poetheather's house where it was cool.

It was hot again today.

Work: Was five minutes late. For those of you who're counting? That counts as a whole 1/2 day missed. (There was a bad wreck on the road I take to get to work that had traffic at a near stand still for several miles.)

I have almost conquered the damn spreadsheets. Two separate sheets, neither complete, neither completely up to date, but I'm making serious headway. And once again, I got the singular pleasure of using sticky labels again. Hallelujah. No more tri-folding letters by hand for me. (At least until in the morning. But that's for a much smaller project. 20 I can handle. 200+? Not so happy with after 3 or 4 weeks.) All this mostly translates to "my new supplies came in this week". This makes me happy. It's the little things, people. Really.

And I left early to go see...

The Psychologist: We talked about how I'm not happy with my work and my lot in life. I don't want to be a corporate grunt, I want to be an artist, a crafts person, and a mom/housewife. Maybe a writer (though that might or might not extend to an actual paid profession - ask me again after NaNoWriMo this year. Only 10 weeks left 'til kickoff!). We also discussed how my emotional reactions to things were often out of sync with my reality, and talked briefly about using writing as a sort of therapy, to externalize issues onto characters and work through them. Yes, I do that sometimes. Yes, I got that memo. Moving on.

It wasn't as disjointed as last time. I didn't feel quite as out of touch with her as I had. But the simple fact is, my life, my world view, everything - just aren't like other people's lives. Some of the stuff about me is going to throw her, because I don't take it the way most people do.

This also brings me to

Knitting: I worked on the second of my "Dancing" socks while I was there (the color I'm using is more like the display on the page (though less purple) than the remaining colors in stock.) Kadollan gave it to me. I'm almost done turning the heel - then the round and round to the toes. These might actually be socks that would be comfortable in the warm weather.

I'm still on clue #2 of the Mystery Stole.

I've finished the "Northern Lights" Mittens from KnitPicks with enough left over for a matching hat, I think. I'm just going to do the ribbing like on the mittens (though probably a few rows shorter) then repeat the main star pattern however many times around and once up and down. The top (and the decreases) will be done on the smaller stripe pattern present on the palms of the mittens. Then? If I'm not bored totally silly? I may figure out a way to make a matching scarf. I'm totally doing the hat on size fives, though. No more tiny tiny size twos with Palette for me. (Until the next time I find a pattern that calls for it. Really.)

Over the weekend I visited the Knaughty Knitter. Despite its proximity, I just can't call it my LYS. I think that will always be Angel Hair Yarn for me. With only one exception, the yarns at the Knaughty Knitter just don't talk to me much at all. The exception? Schaefer's "Anne" (sock yarn - 60% merino superwash, 25% mohair, and 15% nylon - 560 yards) in colourway "Billie Holliday" (I think). At least, that's the one I've found online that looks the closest to what I've got, but mine is much richer, deeper blues and greens with a hint of indigo/purple (if you look at the pic on this page, I'm pretty sure that the blue/green hank in the bottom left hand corner is the one I nabbed). I need to find an appropriately starry-sky pattern for them. I'm tempted to get some Krenik gold metallic and do star embroidery on the finished socks. No, I won't tell you what I paid for it - just know that Schaefer Yarns are worth every penny. Actually, since I was getting a gift certificate from wintermoon3 it wasn't *quite* so bad. (Never mind that I was paying her for said certificate in a backwards sort of way that comes from our checking accounts continually trying to live in sin with each other. I'm ignoring that part.)

But it's good to know that Schaefer won't let me down, no matter what the surroundings. There was *one* little... mishap, though. When wintermoon3 and I were trying to wind it into a ball? It was sort of wrapped around itself and kind of turned into a tangly mess. :( Fortunately, she and poetheather are helping me untangle it.

(don't get me wrong, KK is a lovely shop. It's cozy, well stocked, etc, the owner is very friendly and helpful. It's just not… mine. AHY has been where I've gone since I was 12, and even though I'm only in about once a year (or less - it's in Nashville) they still know exactly who I am, and what projects I was working on last time.)

(I also have recently started knitting the Birch Leaf socks out of A Gathering of Lace in KnitPicks' "Shimmer" in Grape Hyacinth, am working on a shawl of my own patterning in KP's "Gossamer" in "Rose Garden" (it's like knitting with fire, very very cool - more pattern details will follow eventually), am trying to knit a bathroom curtain out of yarn from my stash based off of the free KP pattern here, and there are more things I can't think of right now.)

for lunch there was

Bento: wasn't really in existance today. I put the other half of last night's sandwich from Quizno's in my insulated bag along with a cup of applesauce and a frozen water bottle, but I didn't end up eating the applesauce.

and much thought in general through the day about
Fandom: I have hooked wintermoon3, poetheather, and River on "Battlestar Galactica" and "Bones".

Conveniently enough, my vacation happens to be the same week that season 2 of "Bones" comes out on DVD. Whee!

I fully intend to get Kadollan into "Bones" too - and found out today that ez_as_pi is also a fan (totally not my fault there). I haven't abandoned my BSG fics, and since I now have 2nd season Kara more in my head, hopefully I can really work on them again.

I also have "Bones" fic-bunnies... I think they're the twins of my BSG fic-bunnies. Angst and babies people, angst and babies. To that end, does anyone know how long after taking a round of antibiotics the Pill is ineffective? Or does it only last as long as you're on the other medication?

Also? Totally AWESOME surprise waited for me at the World of Wal the other day. I was looking at the 19.99 DVD case, trying to decide if I should talk my husband into MacGuyver or Forever Knight, when what did I see, lying on it's side (cover wasn't visible) in the bottom far corner?

PICKET.

FENCES.

I do not lie.

It is, in fact, out on DVD. How I missed it on TVShowsOnDVD.com, I don't know, but DUDE! LOVE!

(Yes, Daddy, this is what Mom NEEDS for her Birthday. I'm serious.)

The ONLY reason I do not own this now is that, despite its proximity to the 19.99 DVDs? It was around 45.00. ::is sad:: My friends don't know this show. They have not witnessed the wonder of early David E. Kelly, or the glory of Ray Walston's impassioned speeches, or Don Cheadle and Fyvush Finkel's verbal fencing. (Not to mention Holly Marie Combs's pre-Charmed awesomeness.)

"Douglas Wambaugh for the defense!"

I must rectify this situation.

Did I mention it was hot?

P.S.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just found out that Nickleback, Finger Eleven, and Puddle of Mudd are going to be performing at the GEC (ok, now it's the Sommet Center. Not the point.)

WANNA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

::cries::
