Anybody happen to have any particular affinity or Feel for Steve+C/N? (Not sure if it's to be C/N/S or not yet. Probably not? But you never know.) If so, would you be willing to eyeball something fic-ish for me? Mostly with an eye to characterization and whatall ( Read more... )

The recipe isn't exactly a recipe, per se, but here's what we do:

Put a pork roast, apples (cut into wedges or thick slices - pick kinds that would do well for baking, they'll hold up better), cut up and peeled chunks of any sweet potatoes and winter squash (acorn, butternut, kabocha, etc.) that you're using, along with enough apple juice or apple cider to cover everything. We generally season it with cinnamon and cumin - but you can play around the spices. It all goes into the pot together, and you cook it until the pork is cooked through and falling apart and the squash and sweet potatoes are cooked through (usually about 6 hours on high or 8 or so on low? I think? My husband is actually the one that does most of the cooking.)

We do something similar with a beef roast, only we use beets, onions, regular potatoes, and either kale or beet greens for the veggies. (Also you would just use water for a beef roast, not apple juice, and you'd use whatever herbs you liked and salt and pepper instead of cumin and cinnamon.)

I haven't ever made jam (though I have a jar of peach jam one of my bffs made for me this summer in the pantry!) but I always put ginger in my peach pies and things. :D

Right now, my husband and I live with his grandparents, so there's not a lot of kitchen accessibility most of the time. (Translation: I'm not comfortable using their kitchen for actual cooking.) But once we have a place of our own again, I plan to start doing all sorts of stuff like that! :)
