Global Gathering, Newday, pork dumplings

[+] Had a few short days at home before having to head back out to work a Global Gathering. All the improvements that the event seemed to have made over the last 6 years have completely gone, leaving a really badly run event which is blatently just out to rake as much money in as possible without giving anything back to either the public or the workers..
Highlights Lowlights of the week included:- no free water in catering (which was pretty inedible anyway) for 4 days; no rain covers on the arenas until after it rained which led to large lakes forming and the cherry picker getting stuck up to the axles; spending a week trekking through ankle deep mud before the event had even started; having my coat stolen; having to load out mud and faeces covered cables; discovering the stage manager had only found out what the word 'backline' meant a week previous whilst stage managering another event; getting ID'd and refused alcohol at Morrisons in Stratford.
Actual highlight was getting to cut the set during the live Radio 1 broadcast, since the stage manager was incompetent and no-one of any use had radios for in cases of emergency, and punters had climbed up into the roof of the arena. Interesting how many people were saying 'you can't cut it, it's a live non-stop set on radio 1'. Pah.

[+] Then had a day at home (well a laundry and have lunch in pub day) followed by loading in for 2 days near Alton Towers for Newday - a weeklong festival thingy for teenagers who all believe in God. Hmm. Thankfully I didn't have to stay for the event, and just had to pop some lights up the kingpins of the arenas.
Dove home from that feeling the best I have in such a long time - I never realised that I'd feel so much relief and happyness from just knowing that I've no work for over a week! Not sure what's happening about V/Reading Festivals - I assume I'm working them, but not sure which sites or when.

[+] I'm not surprisingly not doing so well at even starting to tidy up. In an obvious effort to yet again avoid the difficult/things I hate, I've succeeded in reading a couple of books, mostly mowing the lawn, and tonight made a batch of pork dumplings. Tomorrow brings the pre-marinaded char-sui? pork out of the fridge, and I'm going to attempt to make bunny-shaped char-sui buns. How rock and roll am I? :P
