This week I have been one of those affected by this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8162511.stm Power went off here around 1pm monday. I got back from work a few hours ago (the mail centre where I work in Dartford has a back-up generator) and was pleasantly surprised to find the power back on, thanks to some large generators that had been set up while I was out. I can actually see one of them from my kitchen window.
As far as I can tell, we got power back here around 5pm, which means it was off in this area for roughly 52 hours in total.
It's been a stressful few days, to say the least. In the time without power, I've had no way to cook food, been unable to wash any clothes and have had no hot water. And during that time the fridge freezer completely defrosted, meaning a load of food has gone to waste. I've managed to get by as best I can, but I'm so glad to have electricty again.
Tomorrow will be about sorting out the aftermath of the power cut, catching up with the washing and shopping to replace the food I've had to throw away. Maybe I'll even find time to start catching up with things online.
Well, at the very least I can be certain I haven't spent much on electricty this week. And at least after the next few days, I have 2 weeks off work, plenty of time to relax after the stresses this week has thrown at me.
However, I do hope the police manage to find the vandals responsible for this mess as soon as possible...
