This past weekend was a long one, and best of all, I spent it with CJ, who arrived Wednesday evening for a 4-day stay...
Thursday was our trip to Stratford in order to see Hamlet, starring David Tennant and Patrick Stewart. We set off early and it was quite a long drive, but we got there eventually. We had time to spare, so we had a wander around the town, had a meal, visited Shakepeare's grave.
Then we saw the play. It was an amazing production, with excellent performances all round, but Tennant and Stewart were particularly good.
After the play, it was another long drive home again and we got back at about 3am. We slept in late on the friday and had a much slower, easier day. We took a short drive to see an airship, but that was about it.
Saturday turned out to be another long one (but not quite as long as Thursday had been). We headed into London on the train, and did a bit of shopping on Oxford Street, where CJ bought me a lovely new smart black shirt as an early birthday present.
Then we attended the London Fur Meet. CJ was able to catch up with a lot of old friends. But as seems to be the norm for me, I just ended up spending most of the time feeling out of place and uncomfortable.
Once we left the fur meet we started wandering a little until I mentioned I had never been to the Tate gallery before, which was just across the river. So we paid the place a visit. It was a nice gallery, with a few interesting pieces. After the gallery, we took a slow wander home, and got back a bit late.
Sunday, we set out to see if we could see the Red Bull Air Race, but the organisers had managed a pretty good job of closing off all the public areas around the section of the Thames where the race was taking place. We did find an area outside a pub a little further down the river, but it wasn't that great. Once you've squinted at one barely visible plane flying about in the distance, you've pretty much seen all you're going to see. the fact that the weather was a bit crap didn't help either.
So, we gave up on that, and took a trip to the cinema, where we saw Wall-E. It's a very good sci-fi love story which I enjoyed quite a bit.
Unfortunately, after the movie, it was time for CJ to be heading home and our long weekend together came to an end. But at least we packed a lot into this weekend and we will be seeing each other again in a matter of weeks for the August bank holiday weekend.
