So when we got broken into I thought it was high time to backup all my pics cuz if they come back for the pc's I want my pics on an independent website so I have access to them again if ever lost. So I started uploading them to snapfish. It was time to backup my files anyway. So I started about 3 weeks ago, but I tend to do things slow & there are SO many pics that it takes awhile. I was about half done with my uploading, most of the newer pics were in, but a lot of the older pics weren't. I started again yesterday after not doing it for awhile & in the middle of the upload my computer crashes and reboots. Suddenly the system can't boot as it states there is a 'missing os' - yikes, it can't find windows! That means a serious hard disk failure - no warning, no mechanical sounds leading up to it, nothing! Just poof - everyting is gone. I load the hdd up to another pc & it thinks the disk is unformatted, GREAT!!! The only thing I really care about on there is the pics, everything else is replacable. I think, if worse comes to worse I can take it to a disk recovery person for like 200 bucks - ouch!
I have to laugh at the irony of being in the middle of backing the stuff I care about up & it crashing like that. I know there are some available programs that can also perform a recovery so I go to cnet to see what they recommend & download the top program. It finds the files on the disk, so I pay the $50 for the license & ability to recover. Luckily none of the sectors in the pictures were damaged & I got ALL of my pics recovered & transferred to another hard drive. Yeah! It wasn't even that painful!
So if your hard disk crashes & you need the files I highly recommend "file scavenger"
But before you get to that point - start backing up your files that you really care about!!
I still have to do a recovery on some other stuff, but nothing as important as the pics - after I get them uploaded I will start burning them to DVD.
