Egads its been amazingly hot lately!
I had to drive to my parents this afternoon, and my car thermometer was registering 111 degrees in some parts of the city.... at 4 in the afternoon.
I'm playing a friends' wedding next weekend, and so I had to run to my parents' to borrow some records for the bride's parents' requests. I'm now loaded up on Diana Ross & The Supremes, The BeeGees, The Temptations, Al Green, Peter Frampton, Donna Summer, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Elton John, KC & The Sunshine Gang, Neil Diamond, and a real live vinyl copy of the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack.
I tried to talk to the groom tonight about his song selections, and he seemed quite concerned with getting "too thumpin" for the taste of the father-in-law. Considering the music selections the parents put forth, though... I have a feeling I should be able to slip in some good, and appropriate stuff for the bride and groom too. Got some Mocean Worker and some not-so-nasty Ursula 1000 for the disco moments, there's VNV's Beloved (he's a raver, but a secret futurepop fan), there's the Sarah McLaughlin remixes, Massive Attack's Angel, and a few other ideas.
I have it all loaded in my iPod for reviewing for rave-factor and lyrical content throughout the week this week.

I could have never made the drive in this heat to my parents' and back like I did today. My car would have absolutely reeked of exhaust, the window didn't roll down on the driver's side, and the fan only blew in more exhaust so you had to leave it turned off.
I cannot begin to express how refreshing it is to be in a new vehicle again. Its been too many years to recover from the Integra being towed and auctioned incident.

I bought all of my textbooks for this semester this weekend. I saved quite a bit of money finding deals on new "used" copies online (ie used book dealers that had shrink wrapped copies in stock)... $130 saved in one class alone! I celebrated with the extra money from my budget, and bought a rather pricey "school supply." Seeing as how I drive 80 miles round trip to and from school everyday, and I have to deal with rush hour in both directions two days a week this upcoming semester, I thought it would be awfully handy to have GPS that could automatically detect and reroute around traffic alerts. So I researched em, and found a really great deal on a model that had recently been discontinued by the manufacturer (but still supported). I got a Garmin StreetPilot c550. After parusing online, I think I'm really gunna dig it.

Next weekend should be fun.. The wedding is Friday, and then on Saturday I am going to a going away dinner party at a friends house, taking all of them to go see a Johnny Cash tribute at House of Blues, and then I have a gig at AfterLife later on in the evening as well. Sunday, I'm staying in for James' and my 2nd anniversary, though we may swing out to repeat our first date. Things there are pretty swell. He has one of the most genuinely golden and kind hearts I have ever met, and he loves me so very much. We don't go without our challenges, but we're pretty good at working out solutions to them.
