Dec 17, 2010 21:53

[After Edward's adventures in the snow he was warmed up and in and out of it for awhile. Now he's awake properly, lying in his bed. It helps that he's a little more lucid now. He sighs softly, rubbing his eyes.]

[Despite taking his leave of Edward earlier, Hohenheim had actually stayed at the estate rather than leaving for Liore right away. Although Edward surely didn't want to see him, Hohenheim couldn't bring himself to leave just yet. He would give the boy his space surely, but...

He'd spent the majority of his time exploring the manor, trying to keep his mind occupied, so that he need not pace endlessly in circles in worry over his son.

Eventually, he can stand it no longer and decides to take a quick peek into Ed's room. Just to make sure he's all right. After that... then he'll ask Naoto to take him back to Liore...]

[Ed is awake this time with a book and when the door opens this time he looks up at the person interrupting his reading.]

You're still here?

[Hohenheim slowly begins to duck behind the doorway again...]

Oh... I thought you might still be sleeping... Excuse me...

You might as well tell me what the fuck you want.

[He pushes the door open just far enough to peer through once more.]

I just wanted to check on you again... Make sure you're all right... [Pushes the door open a fraction of an inch. Hesitant.] Your hand... does it pain you at all?

Not at all, actually. I remember it bleeding but...

[He opens the door a hair further.]

I, um... thought it might help... [Pushes the door open a little further... It's possible to see the entirety of his body now.] What about the rest of your body? Does it hurt anywhere else...?

Thought what would help? No, I'm fine now...

[He takes a tentative step inside.]

I used alchemy to heal your wounds. I was... afraid you might bleed out. It seemed faster to just... Ah, well. That's all that matters, I suppose.

Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that you were all right. [He takes a look at Ed's physique again.] You look a bit thin. You're not eating enough. Do you want something to eat now? I could... get some soup. Or something?

[It's painfully obvious how awkward this is for Hohenheim...]

Not alchemy. Alkahestry, right? [It really shouldn't surprise Ed that Hohenheim would know, but it kind of does.]

[He could tell it to shove it, but he nods a little tentatively.] Win would like it if I eat.

That's right. You could say that I'm a practitioner of the Purification Arts. I traveled a great deal in Xing, and I... learned from the people there.

[Actually, he'd been the one who taught them a great deal... but Ed didn't need to know that now.]

You need to gain more body fat if you're going to be traveling about in the cold like that. Animals glut themselves in the autumn so that they can survive in winter. You might want to do the same.

You don't have to talk down to me, I do get that shit you know. [He taps his temple.] Genius.

Food is fine, but if you put something weird in it, I won't eat it. Ask Winry what I like.

[Hohenheim rubbed the back of his head nervously.]

Ah... I know you know. I just thought... I should say it anyway.

[He smiled awkwardly.] You don't have to worry about that. My cooking... is pretty bad. So, I suppose it's up to Winry... [He glanced toward the door, as if she might actually be standing there. Of course, she wasn't, but stil...] She's really an amazing young woman. I've very happy for the both of you.

Not that I need your approval...but thanks. I guess. [Ed blushes lightly, after what he did? Talking about Winry is awkward.]

I..did alkahestry once. Or some approximation of it.

[Hohenheim catches that blush, but doesn't comment upon it. It'd only serve to make Ed more awkward and defensive. But he does smile, his still posture relaxing somewhat.]

I gave her my blessing already. I thought it was the right thing to do.

[But at the mention of Edward performing alkahestry, Hohenheim's eyes widen a bit in surprise. Not much, though. This WAS his son, after all...]

You did? And what were the results of your experiment?

[Ed grumbles a little about that, they didn't need his blessing, really.]

Satisfactory. It was sort of a combination of the two. I managed to stem some severe bleeding using my life force to do so.
