A New Addition

Ok, so it's been a while, and there are a few things I should catch people up on. Last week, my sweetie decided that Bella should have a little sister. We looked around Craig's List, a few adoption web sites and called the Vet Tech looking for possible kittens that were in need of a good home. Not seeing many kittens on-line, we decided to just go down to the pound. So into the car we hopped and drove the half mile to our local county shelter. There were not any kittens, and just a few young cats. Looking around a couple calico cats caught my eye, but one was already spoken for and the other was not to friendly.

During this time one little gray cat purred and pawed at the cage door any time someone walked by. She was a year old, but so tiny! Less than six pounds. When I held her, she couldn't stop purring and kneading. It wasn't hard to decide that we should keep this friendly, forever kitten. So after about an hour of paperwork and lectures, we took our new kitty home.

Now, you have to understand, cats are not to happy when a new resident is introduced to their home. The first couple days they took turns wondering around the house. Otherwise Bella stayed in our bedroom and Sylvie was kept in the main bathroom. Soon Bella figured out where we were keeping the other cat and proceeded to make a great impression of a snake as she stared at the paws behind the crack under the door.

We started to let them out together for short periods of time. Sylvie wondered around exploring and Bella dutifully followed her stalking and hissing. Sylvie didn't seem bothered by this supposed intimidation. They have been wondering around together for about three days now and have started to play. They are not curling up together yet, and there is still a little hissing around meal times, but they are getting along rather well.

One of my clients gave me a tall scratching post. She didn't want it anymore because the bottom was ripped up. I covered that part in rope and sprayed it with catnip. This is now the kittens favorite toy and they seem to enjoy playing King of the Mountain :)
