An experience of work

These holidays will be remember for one thing, shitloads of work, a lot of socialising and of course Neko Nation, I'll get to the events in time and for Neko Nation, there's too much on that to go on here I'll probably be creating an external blog for this.

I started work experience for Diabetes WA and well it's been quite a mixed reaction, first of all, I'll give them credit, it's a decent work experience program, it's been one where I have received real work, not just a junior office bitch role. It's for a charity which has made it interesting, everything seems to have a purpose and it does make you feel like you're making a difference towards the greater good of a cause, rather then profits.

The work itself has been questionable, some of the tasks, feel far too straightforward, there's been a few times when I've literally thought that in the time it's taken them to write out what they want me to do on paper, I have been able to complete on the computer and barely a challenge. A few tasks have been interesting and full on, working out some pretty tricky excel techniques by myself was definitely a great achievement I'll look back on, considering nobody else in the office could figure out how to work out a complex conditional formatting formula.

There has been an average amount of work overall, probably below average, at first this was bad because I was bored as hell and sometimes it felt like there was nothing to do but I've managed to juggle my business with internet access, there's no Facebook but that's fair enough, it's one thing volunteering, it's another coming into a workplace and stealing their internets. Anyways, it's made for a much more relaxed time, I'm not rushing to get things done at first which has made things a lot easier.

Overall I'm learning a few new things it's been challenging but at times a bit duller then I thought it would be due to the lack of work I've been given since in the past workplaces have merely given a small amount of work which an average student should complete, not a HD student who's one of ANZ's fastest transaction processors. That may have been a bit arrogant but workplaces are seriously used to low expectations in terms of work experience but they are handling it well I must admit.

Whether or not I'll continue to the end, it looks unlikely, I've got another 2 volunteer jobs I'm looking at getting into plus a callback to the Sunday Times. I'm currently looking into volunteering at start up day at Curtin, telling people how not to be freakin' n00bs at uni, which will end up on my academic transcript. Also found that PAWS is looking for bookkeepers, which is a huge double tick in my book. One it's experience in the one area I desperately need for an accounting job and also I finally get the chance to work in an animal rights charity which would be pretty dreamy.

So anyways, I'm not leaving any part of my resume to chance at all.
