I won!
I guess I had failed to mention in any of my LJ posts about me running for a board of directors position in the San Diego Astronomy Association.. well, I did that. Anyway, we held elections and I heard about the results last night at our board meeting (which regular members are able to attend, and where I give presentations for building things out there). The results showed me being in 3rd place (there are 4 positions open), however the person who was in first place, with nearly every person voting for them, decided to remove himself from the election, so I actually am #2 on the list and will become a Board of Directors for the SDAA next month!!
Another big thing, astronomy wise, is that I finally found a new telescope mount! I've been checking out this place called Astromart, its kind of like the craigslist of astronomy stuff. I bought a Losmandy G-11 with Gemini GOTO system, tripod, polar alignment scope, GPS receiver, extra counter weights, and pretty much every aftermarket option available. Even comes in two Pelican cases! Expensive little beast! And HEAVY. The cost to ship it from Oregon to San Diego was $250! I got a great deal on it though, less than half of what it would cost new. Its possible I might have it on Friday, just in time for the move to the new apartment!
I'm going to be spending a lot of money here this month... I've gotta get new furniture for the apartment (kitchen table, couch, love seat, rug, end tables, computer desk, computer chair, light fixtures) and I have to spend a bit more so I can attach my telescope to the mount that I just bought. Luckily I've been very good about my bills recently and my credit card was pretty much empty before I bought the mount. Hopefully it wont take toooo long to pay all of this off!
Oh, I have a new address! I just bought a PO Box today, since my new place doesn't have a mailbox for me. The address is: PO Box 19518, San Diego, CA 92159.
