I talked to the president of the SDAA today and he said he'd write me in on the board meeting on the 9th of Sept.  That gives me a little over a week to polish it up.  If anyone wants to take a look at what I'm presenting, heres the link:  www.lordsofcyberspace.com/astronomy/   It's about as good of a Design Document as I can make for such a thing ( Read more... )

So you have to hire someone to dig the hole and lay the cement. Have you checked into the price for that? You should ask others who did their cement work, so that maybe you can hire the same people. What if there is a fire? Will you be putting some kind of fire retardant on it? Is all this money you will be laying out worth it? Can you go and stay out there for the weekend? It's a lot of work and money if you will only go there once or twice a month. Will you get help constructing the dome part? Your documentation looks real good. Very through! See you soon!

How do you get 300 cement blocks out there, from the city?

As soon as I get approval I'll buy them in batches of 50 and transport them out in the car in batches. If I need to get them all out there quickly, I'll rent a truck for a day. I may also rent a truck when I haul all of the dome structure wood out there. My car can hold a LOT, especially with the trunk cleaned out, but it is certainly easier with a truck.

The ground at the site is composed of a top layer that is 1-2 feet thick and very easy to dig. Its almost like a really thick layer of dust. Below that is just rocks and its nearly impossible to get through without a backhoe. Seeing as I have to dig a hole that is 7 feet deep... I'd much rather spend the $1000 and get it over and done with in a day without having to kill myself. I haven't checked prices for it and don't want to until I have approval from the board to actually do construction. Once I get approval I'll go through the whole process of finding a contractor to dig the hole and to lay the cement, as well as finalizing the design and doing a cost analysis ( ... )
