Becoming a Wisdom Gatherer
The ancient terminology for the stages of a woman's life - Maiden, Mother and Crone - needs to be expanded and not that women are living much longer. Inserted between Mother and Crone is a necessary and fulfilling stage that I call Wisdom Gatherer.
Of course we gather wisdom all through our lives, but in keeping with the saying 'Given enough time and nourishment, sage will replace wild oats in the garden of life.,' midlife usually provides more opportunities for cultivating sage-filled wisdom than do the previous stages of Maiden or Mother. In the first, we are rightly cultivating ourselves; who we are, what we believe, and what values we hold dear. As Mothers, we often concentrate more on cultivating and nourishing the lives of others; if not children, then career, mate, or personal dreams.
The Wisdom Gatherer period is often the time when women wake and mountains begin to move. In this phase, our souls invite us to mature in spirit, acknowledge and build on our unique gifts and talents, and glean wisdom from our experiences through thoughtful contemplation. Ideally, as Wisdom Gatherers, we take measure of ourse4lves - gently, realistically, and with honor - and in so doing, we see ourselves as highly capable and truly miraculous beings. During this period we cull all that we have learned and all that we intuitively know. Such introspection ushers us through the age of Wisdom Gatherer toward the eventual crown of Cronedom, or Eldership.
No matter what age you are, you can gather wisdom. Imagine yourself carrying a beautiful, hand-woven basket as you move through the garden of life. Each circumstance, experience and relationship has the potential for becoming a stunning blossom of compassion or a fragrant bundle of sage.
Think about the wisdom that you have gathered thus far. Give yourself credit for the ways in which you have grown and blossomed and for the ways that you've helped others grow. Appreciating ourselves each day gives us the courage to gather the seeds and stomp through the fertilizer, both of which is necessary to keep our garden of wisdom growing.
Each experience has within it a seed of wisdom.
I Gather wisdom as I go through life.
