The Malice that comes from those who suffer a violent death, or hold a grudge strong enough to keep a piece of the deceased’s soul upon the mortal realm; hiding in plain sight to those who even have a small inkling of the place that lays between life and death. Crimson red butterflies, harmless on their own and in small groups, but able to cause great damage when large amounts become attracted to people, places, or objects bathed in blood and hatred. Causing hauntings, possessions of spirit and mind, even insanity that seeps into the very fabric of a person or building. Leaving a stain that forever attracts the Malice to these places for years, even after body or place has become ashes and dust.
Those who manage to see the Malice, and have chose to study and prevent it from collecting even more, have seen the patterns and made the connection of strong sense of Malice in places were bloody battles have been fought or where just one enraged person may have spent their life. Events and paranormal accounts also finding a link to Malice, for Malice can warp even the reality which we all securely rest comfortably in. Perhaps to one day change the world, for something that may or may not include the hope of humanity remaining as it is today. A world filled with the angry, psychotic energy as the Malice feeds upon itself and in doing so propagates itself as well.
However for as long as man has been creating Malice so too has it been countering the affects of it. The holy, the sensitive, and even ordinary people who were gifted with extraordinarily kind hearts have been negating the Malice with actions and rituals to purify those red butterflies. Priests who perform exorcism upon souls taken by Malice, rituals of saints dying to cleanse an area of the taint, and those who break the cursed chains upon angry spirits to free them of the influence of Malice; all working quietly from the general eye as we turn our beliefs to science and the material world.
Numbers so small, and becoming smaller as fewer people believe what they can see. As well that those who can negate Malice become the prey of Malice just as quickly. Many not living past childhood or their teenage years, without proper help or the luck of the gods. Thus, this has been left for those who can see to find and perhaps survive and fight the Malice. This tome, in many languages that I and a few others who have fought against the Malice could translate for, and in many places to be found.
For those who find these tomes and listen to these words, I pray you have better luck in surviving then those of us who were drawn to it and this plight.
