Today
brian1789 and I found our 450th and 1000th caches respectively, accompanied by the ever-patient
patgreene,
echidnaboy, and
pokedavid.
We chose a special cache... the very first cache hidden by our dear friend
gravehearted,
Goodnight Mooney, located in an old 1800s pioneer graveyard in Half Moon Bay.
We'd attempted to find it back on our 5th anniversary geocaching outing in March, but alas a bunch of poison oak had recently grown up across the trail leading to it. So we pledged ourselves to come back with hedge trimmers to tackle it another day... and today was the day.
brian1789 worked for an hour straight to clear the stray stems from the path, making it passable again.
Finally we were able to reach the cache site! We paid our respects to the pioneers and their descendents who were buried in the hidden plots. Then Jay cleared away a few more stray vines that blocked the cache itself, and we had it in our hands.
echidnaboy and
pokedavid were interested to see what was in the cache... a lot of high quality stuff, actually! I took a bracelet and a sticker and left another bracelet. Jay left a travel bug and took a pretty fish card for Pat.
Jay finished tidying up around the cache area... you can see the lovely view of the Pacific out in the distance, here:
Then we went to the Garden Deli Cafe of the San Benito House in town, and got the world's yummiest sandwiches, along with chips and drinks. Jay and Pat first stayed in the San Benito House in 1984 on their first trip to California, and Jay and I stayed there recently for our 5th anniversary. As we munched on our sandwiches, a nearby musician strummed lovely tunes like Crimson and Clover on his guitar.
Back at home, Jay's 450th cache log and my 1000th:
