In the past two years, I've 1) put a new roof on the house and 2) had it painted. Now I need 1) a new fence 2) tree work and 3) new wood walkways in the back yard (the old ones are so rotten that even I can't remember which boards not to step on.)
While I recognize and own the fact that these are necessary maintenance items and are part of being a homeowner, I can't help but think - sweet fancy damn - that I could have treated myself and several friends to some kickass trips with the money I've spent on my house in the past few years.
I feel the need to make some changes to the interior. I've been here ten years now and my bedroom's still the same color and the kitchen probably hasn't been painted in twenty years. The kitchen counters are this weird buff color that is impossible to keep clean and I'd love to replace the fantabulous 80's track lighting for recessed lights. I have an empty room that needs flooring and I need the walls in my bathroom skimmed.
While I have this itch for change, I'm at a loss for inspiration. I know what I like when I see it but I can't walk into a room and come up with an overall vision. So I'm left with a feeling of restlessness and dissatisfaction.
This will require further meditation and looking through as many copies of Southern Living as my Mom can spare.
If you've found any ways to catch the decorating muse, please do tell.
