CXXIV A.D.

It is 124 A.D. and the Roman Empire has never been so glorious. But even in a place as prosperous as Villa Adriana, conflict stirs, waiting to overflow. Emperor Hadrian must struggle to balance his duty, his life, and his love, while underneath his nose certain powers threaten to strike out against him. Can the Emperor manage to maintain the peace and happiness he's promised to his people? And is Villa Adriana really as perfect as they'd have us believe?

You decide. It is 124 A.D. and history is waiting to be written.

FAQ

Q: What is the format for scenes?
A: All scenes for CXXIV are written in AIM chats, just the way you might on a forum. Scenes should only be posted when complete (and all parties agree the scene is complete!) In addition, all scenes should be written in present tense and posted in cxxiv under an LJ-cut with the following information posted before it:
Who: (Names of all active characters in the scene)
Where: (Where the scene takes place, e.g. main kitchen or temple to Venus)
When: ("recently" is usually sufficient response to this tag, unless the scene takes place at a very specific time, such as "immediately after ___")

Q: What about journals?
A: Your character is free to make posts on his/her journal. However, it is to be assumed that these posts can't be read by other characters, unless the post is labeled LETTER TO: ___ in the subject line. If this isn't in the subject, the journal post is a private reflection written by the character and certainly isn't posted on the internet for all to see (since there was no internet, har har.) In the case of letters, your character is free to reply in comment form to the letter or note from another character.

Q: What do you mean "rewrite history"?
A: In CXXIV, nothing that happened historically after 124 A.D. is considered canon. That means that anything could happen - consider it like an alternate universe, where the tides of history can go in any direction. For example, if a historic battle were fought and won by the Roman armies, in CXXIV we could decide that they didn't win and alter the course of Roman expansion. We all know what really happened, but now you can make your own history.

Q: How do I name my character?
A: Your character's name should be appropriate to the time period. Here are some links to lists of ancient names and their meanings: Roman, Greek, Egyptian. People of these three races were likely to be in Rome in 124, but an Egyptian - even an Egyptian slave - likely would have a Roman name as well as their birth name.

Q: How do I pick a PB?
A: Your PB shouldn't be extremely modern-looking. Try to find icons that are cropped close to the face, showing t-shirts or modern clothing as little as possible. PBs with extremely modern hairstyles or haircuts, dyed hair, piercings, or excessive makeup can't be used because they're just not believable. Of course we don't expect you to find a PB who always wears a toga, but we do expect you to find one that fits into the feel of the time.

Q: Is there a character limit?
A: Yes, the current character limit is seven. If you have seven characters and really want another, please ask a mod and we'll give you the go-ahead if you are handling your other characters well.

Q: What do I have to do to remain active?
A: All of your current characters must be in at least two scenes a month, or participate in one scene and make a journal entry.
