CHM: Goth/Industrial Club Hits!

Dec 09, 2008 00:34

It's never too early to think about what you're going to do over the Holiday Break, and whereas dancing through 53 tracks of Coal's Hotfoot Mix for Stepmania sounds like a great idea, adding seven more sounds even better! This set comes from the Goth/Industrial scene, with every track here consistently filling the dance floor. As will probably always be the case, they include single player steps for Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy-- no Double, Solo, or Challenge modes, unfortunately. Remember, these are still preview versions, so please try them out and give me feedback. I'm especially unsure of the foot rankings I've given these-- I based them off of Stepmania's suggested values, but honestly what do they know? Yeah, and of course, feel free to share these with someone who might actually care, or just download them for the edited mp3s. Your favorite club trax in easily-digestible minute-and-a-half form!

Call the Ships to Port (edit)
- Covenant
A few years ago I saw Covenant play at this terribly disorganized art show/concert in some multi-story former warehouse in Brooklyn. The place was a totally overcrowded firetrap with barely one exit, but the band was completely professional and seemed to be having the time of their lives. Despite the annoying self-obsessed girl pushing past us, standing in front of us, and elbowing us with her dancing ("I'm just trying to get the best view I can!") I still had a good time because the band had so much energy. Yay for Covenant! (Boo for everyone else!)

Floorkiller (edit)
- Icon Of Coil
It takes some gumption to preemptively declare the success of your dance track right there in its title, but Icon Of Coil went ahead and did it. To their credit, they were right.

Just One Fix (edit)
- Ministry
Al Jourgensen has to be considered one of the godfathers of the industrial scene. When Al is on, he is on. This track is from the landmark album Psalm 69, which also contained the George Bush (Sr.)-bashing track NWO. Some themes from that song returned in No W, the anti-George Bush (Jr.) track from the also excellent album Houses of the Molé.

Lucretia My Reflection (edit)
- The Sisters Of Mercy
No question, Andrew Eldritch is the godfather of the Goth scene. Feel free to look him up on Wikipedia, or anywhere really-- alternately, just hang around two or more goths for any length of time, and "Uncle Andy" is sure to be mentioned eventually.

Oxyacetylene (edit)
- Cubanate
Honestly, this track isn't even that fast (comparatively), yet somehow it never fails to slay everyone who dances to it. Maybe that's because the DJ always winds up spinning it in a block with three or four other high energy tracks, and spazzes like myself just have to dance to all of them.

Plasticity (edit)
- Front Line Assembly
FLA absolutely dominated the Industrial scene in the early-to-mid 90s, with Tactical Neural Implant, Millennium, and Hard Wired. I've mentioned FLA in the past due to their associations with Noise Unit, Delerium, and a billion other side projects. Great music! It's too bad Bill Leeb's lyrical prowess seems to be stuck at about middle-school level.

R.S.V.P. (edit)
- Pop Will Eat Itself
I mentioned PWEI when I added Clint Mansell's "2 Pi r". So this is what they sound like, although the band's style has evolved over time (i.e., they added more guitar). Check out the video.
