Possibly a very stupid question.

Does bread (made from wheat) count as part of the 'five a day' thing?

If not? why not?

This is the same kind of question as the question I asked my mother the other day...
"Why do chips not count towards five-a-day? They're potatoes cut up..If I ate a potato it would count..."
She said they don't count but didn't know why. I want to know why!

Potatoes don't count. It's because potatoes are essentially starch and contain little in the way of vitamins, etc. unlike other vegetables or fruits.
