Check THIS shit out. Monologist, author, and actor Mike Daisey was performing a rendition of his monologue Invincible Summer when...well. Just
check it out.
And prepare for the rant. Below.
Okay, first off? Wow. Fucking...unbelievable. That was so over the top inappropriate that I don't even have words. Frankly, had I been Daisey, I would have charged the hateful idiot with vandalism. I mean...after all, how do you think JK Rowling would feel if someone offended with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows managed to get ahold of the original manuscript and dump it in water? This is the completely analogous.
However, Daisey handled himself with a level of grace and humility that only underscores even more how much the "protesters" were being inappropriate. I wasn't familiar with Daisey before now, but I'm immediately a fan (and not just because of that...the man is funny, too). Kudos for him and his handling of the situation.
Frankly, Christian group or public high school doesn't matter. Either way, it was reprehensible...and yes, if they bought tickets to a show without understanding what it was, that's their problem. Daisey has a website. This website talks about Invincible Summer and has no less then 9 reviews of the show. Further research could be done online. If these people went and watched Grindhouse without doing any research, would this idiot have slashed open the theater screen, or gone into the projection booth and torched the film reel?
Of course not. But this is okay in their eyes (I'm sorry, but I don't buy for a moment the claim from the group that the vandalist, who was supposedly A CHAPERONE for fuck's sake, called to apologize later), because /sarcasm/ this is just a Repertory Theater performer. It's not someone important, right? /end sarcasm/
Idiots. Reprehensible fucking idiots.
