“What,” said the Master, advancing on the Doctor and gesturing with a book at him, “is this?” The Doctor looked down and snatched the book out of the Master’s hand.
“It’s a book,” he said defensively.
“A children’s book,” smirked the Master. “A certain black market children’s book about a young British wizard.”
“Yes?” said the Doctor. “And why exactly is it that we live here and not in Britain? It’s way more advanced there!”
“But I like the way I can keep you HERE,” purred the Master. “Anyway, Doctor, I had no idea you were such a great fan of children’s literature. Being as you’re over 1000 years old.”
“903!” the Doctor objected and the Master smiled and nodded patronisingly. “Besides,” said the Doctor, “you’re one to talk! I’ve seen that awful American series that you read.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” said the Master with great dignity.
“You know EXACTLY what I mean,” said the Doctor. “Sparkly vampires and the rape of the English language?”
“It’s funny!” said the Master.
“Don’t start,” said the Doctor. “I’ve seen the way you smile when you read it.”
“Well…well at least I’m not reading illegal ‘Communist literature’,” said the Master, glaring.
“At least I’M not reading rubbish,” said the Doctor.
“At least I don’t have a stick up my arse,” retorted the Master.
“At least I’m not EVIL,” the Doctor replied.
Then, as so many of their arguments did, it degenerated into a tickle fight. The Master, as per usual, won.
But his books were still crap so the Doctor maintained the moral high ground in the end.
Even if he could totally relate to Edward.
