UD Rocks

I sure have been having a great time these days. There is always something to do, every single night. The people who I went with on the retreat get together every Wednesday night now and we say a Rosary, then play a crazy game of ultimate frisbee in the dark. Classes have been super interesting too.
Yesterday I had an awesome class in Father Maguire's Lit Trad I. Father Maguire is basically the Father Fred of UD. He looks like him, talks like him, and is extremely brilliant like him, except he teaches literature. Fr. Maguire talked about William F. Buckely's mentor at Yale, a guy named Willmoore Kendall. Apparently he was an incredibly brilliant conservative professor Yale in the 1950s. He had his tenure bought out, for hundreds of thousands of dallars, by the liberal Yale administration, who wanted to get rid of him. He is credited by many as the founder of the modern conservative movement, and started The National Review. After leaving Yale, -get this- he moved to the then new University of Dallas and founded UD's politics department! One of the architects of modern conservative movement was right here, and taught until he died of a heart attack 4 years later. I don't know, that was just cool to me. Another cool story connected to Fr. Maguire is that he's part of the Cistercians who live across the highway. These guys are originally from Hungary, but crossed the alps into Austria back when the Commies were taking over in the 50s. They ended up in Dallas, and they're going to have a 50th anniversary mass this Sunday night. It should be really cool. Anyway, I hope everybody is having a great time in College, and hopefully taking care of buisiness too :)

Oh yeah, and Kiefer, if you haven't been to this website, you've gotta go there:
