Shutdown

Oct 01, 2013 14:45

So the government shut down today because Congressional leaders could not come to agreement on a Federal budget. Republicans in the House are demanding a repeal of Obamacare as part of any budget agreement, and Democrats in the Senate aren't budging on it.

The most annoying thing about situation is that Facebook has exploded with finger-pointing: Republicans blindly blame Democrats and vice versa. I doubt anyone on either side really knows enough about Obamacare one way or the other to truly understand it beyond the partisan hype and hyperbole that talking heads in the media are spewing.

Meanwhile, it seems like most people miss the whole point: When politicians engage in brinksmanship rather than compromise and allow the government to literally shut down, it shows how broken the entire system is. That Congress lets this happens and still gets paid shows JUST how broken it is.
