Grant Cottage

I rode up to Albany Wednesday night, spent the night, then went from there up to Grant Cottage for much of the day on Thursday to take pictures for Grant's Last Battle. I also had the chance to go through a lot of their photo archives.

Neat place although threadbare and shabby because of neglect by NY State. Like the Jackson Shrine, they have a bed, blanket, and clock--plus other original artifacts, including Grant's favorite porch chair and the leather chairs he slept in and worked in most of the time.

Maybe the best coup: I got a first-edition of Grant's memoirs for $160. Sweet!

I was excited about this book to begin with but I am getting more and more so!

travel, books, writing, civil war
