Have they instituted the 3 ID thing plus social security to get the license, for homeland security? I went last July to get my new license, and brought all the requisite documents, but the clerk could not read one of the numbers(I've had that document in my wallet since 4th grade. The lady at the DMV told me to go get a new SS card that was legible. I told her that was a waste of time, as the law does not require that the SS card be legible, just to present it. To make a long story short, I went to the next building and told my fiance(the Judge) what had happened and that it would take a couple of weeks to get a SS card and my license was expiring tomorrow. She typed something, signed it, and put it in an envelope and told me to get back in line at the DMV and give this to the bureaucrat. Ran into the same clerk, presented the same ID and was again refused, this time scolded. I handed her the note, and she read it, called over her supervisor, who also read it. They both frowned, but then pasted that phoney smile of cooperation that apparatchiks everywhere use when encountering citizens with friends in very high places. Needless to say, I got my drivers license that day. Being married(at that time engaged) to a circuit court judge has its perks......One of the best perks is getting a good seat at a restaurant, never fails when she makes the reservation. Except at Pelican Alley where we sit wherever the hell they put us as long as the seafood comes out and the liquor is flowing.
