From Civil War Trust

Got this via e-mail today from the Civil War Trust:

Emerging Civil War Team,

I’ve been meaning for a while to drop you guys a note and say how excited I was when I first stumbled across your blog - what a great way to encourage and hone the “next generation” of historians. Plus, it’s great to see an outlet that’s bringing attention to the work of NPS interpreters, the folks who walk these sites every day and know them inside out. Bravo!

Since taking over the Trust’s membership magazine, Hallowed Ground, a few years ago, I’ve been doing my best to help introduce our members to the wide variety of voices out there writing Civil War history. Particularly during the sesquicentennial, I think we have a great opportunity to bring public attention to these new areas of research and the folks delving into them. I also know that beginning a career as a published historian is hard; getting those first few published pieces isn’t easy.

I can’t say it’s every issue, but sometimes I find myself in a position where I’ve got more flexibility for what to include as feature stories. In those cases, I’d love to be able to reach out to your community and see if there’s anyone who would be interested in submitting. And since, it looks like I’m going to have one of those issues coming up in Summer 2012 (thus the summer of ’62, since we’re following the anniversary calendar), I thought this would be a good time to start the conversation. My brain initially, of course, went to Seven Days and/or Second Manassas, but I’d be open to other thoughts as well.

Short story: I want you guys to keep up the good work - and I want to help you do it!
