I was having a hard time with this one, and then I decided to go backwards instead... and so now we have Smallville from the 1970s (with a few judicious tweeks).
Richard Hatch as Clark Kent
He knows how to do smoldering and brooding and can be heroic and sweet at the same time. The girls are all over him, but he can keep his distance for his duty.
Jan Michael Vincent as Lex Luthor
Intensity is what JMV brings to the screen, in all roles and times. He can be heroic, he can be a villain, he can be charming, he can be dangerous. He walks his own path. Just picture him bald in the photos. (It's so *NOT* my fault that all the pictures of him young were all half-naked!)
Mary Beth Evans as Chloe Sullivan
Smart and tough but with a sweet interior. She doesn't rest for what she believes she should go after, and when she loves, it's true. (We all know Smallville should have gotten Chloe and Clark together, if it wasn't going to be Clark and Lex ;p)
Valerie Bertinelli as Lana Lang
Hometown girl working out her own teen issues behind the popularity mask. Different time, but the story goes on.
John Schnider as Whitney Fordman
The *real* small-town boy. ;D {I just had to.}
LeVar Burton as Pete Ross
(not shown - do you know how *hard* it is to find good pictures of Kunta Kinte? o.o)
He knows about struggles, prejudice, and sticking to his guns. Life keeps going, though, and one has to adapt.
Maureen O'Hara as Martha Kent
Strong and beautiful, able to handle all things that life throws at her and also stand by her man. Adaptable and courageous. (It's just a wee bit even more retro than the 70s, but I happen to adore Maureen O'Hara.)
George Peppard as Jonathan Kent
He can be stern, he can be tough, but he can also be likable and a family man. (Yes, there was life before the A-Team.)
Robert Vaughn as Lionel Luthor
If Lex's main attribute is intensity, Lionel's would be charisma, and Robert Vaughn has that in spades. Charming even as he's sneaking around your back for notorious dealings. A lady's man who can still make the men respect him. Just picture him with long, wild hair.
Patrick Duffy as Aquaman
He knows how to swim underwater with webbed fingers and watch over his Atlantis. (Yes, there's very much a joke in there - bonus points to those who get it.)
Pamela Sue Martin as Lois Lane
Investigative nose with a flair for the dangerous! Beauty and brains are a sleuthing combination. (I couldn't resist this one either.)
