Wow...it's been a long time since I was here last...

...real life seems to be kicking my arse. That, and I spend too much time on Huffington Post, arguing with thickheaded conservatives who think women and gay people are inferior beings. I need to stop the madness.

So...life update. My daughter is fairly settled in Jasper...she has a job with the bank and has made some friends. She's getting out and dealing with actual people instead of camping out on the computer all the time, which has to be healthy for her.

Steve and I went to Jasper in September, visited with Ceri, Mom and Marve and Vicki. Caught up with our friends, Steve did some fishing. It was good. We went home via Horse lake (up by Hundred Mile House), where Steve did some more fishing.

Mom had hip surgery in December (finally), after umpteen trips to Edmonton (by ambulance...must have cost the taxpayers a bomb) for tests and prep etc. She's back there again, doing rehabilitation therapy at the Glenrose. She sounds pretty good...the surgery reduced a lot of the pain she's been in.

Work has been rather hectic ever since we signed up with ADP to handle our payroll...it takes more time to input it in their system than when I was processing it in house. On the plus side, they just sent me the T4s (and the W2 for our lone US employee) which saves me at least a day of work.

The owners gave us all ipads for Christmas, which was rather nice. I really enjoy reading on mine...it's almost like reading an actual book. I have also played some games...which are dangerously addictive, and given my personality, that is not a good thing. I tend to become obsessed with things.

Many years ago, when I first started reading fanfic, I came across Lust Over Pendle by AJ Hall. I bookmarked it to read at some point (because I adore Mist Over Pendle and the Harry Potter books). Then my computer died, and I lost my bookmarks, so I forgot about it. A week ago, out of the blue, I remembered it and Googled the title...not with any expectation of finding it. I got a pleasant shock...it was there, and the author had written several stories in that universe AND they were available in epub format. I downloaded it to my iPad and adored it, so I downloaded the sequel : Dissipation and Despair as well as a couple little novellas. There were also some Torchwood/Lord Peter Wimsy crossovers and a Sherlock/Saki fix with Tobermory the cat which delighted me. It was so nice to find such entertaining writing...they have cheered my blah winter days.

Other than that, I'm working on a drawing and we have decided to fix up the kitchen.
