Parents just don’t understand

A woman I use to work with made the comment how “being a parent is the most selfish thing a person can do” and went on to explain that to the effect about how people who have children (her included) do it prove how good parents they can be. Not having my own kids, I don’t know if that is really the case.

What I do know is that many people with kids truly forget how their children effect other people. For example, as I write this in a coffee shop that OVERWHELMINGLY serves adults and is not gear for children at all has a mother with a friend and one of their children who is about 2-3 years old. The child has spent most of the time running at her top speed continually through the shop, yelling at the woman who brought her about wanting more of a sweet and showing chairs all over the place. All the while the adults continued their conversation mostly oblivious to the havoc this kid is creating.

This reminds me of a time a few years back when I was working at an airline and I made similar complaints to the woman I worked with about how parents don’t supervise their children in public and I was told “You obviously don’t have kids, so you don’t understand”

What is there to understand. If you bring your kids out in public, you should be prepared to supervise your kids so their behavior DOES NOT impact other who are there.

To me this represent ultimate selfishness, if you kids can’t behave in public, why bring them in public.

kids, update, parents, people, annoyed
