"just the smile in your eyes, it can light up the night"

Alrite, kids...

I saw Cirque du Soleil's «Corteo» in San Francisco tonight, and it was absolutely amah-zing. Having not been very impressed with «Varekai» two years ago, I was glad to be enthralled with one of these productions once again. It is mind-boggling how they are able to bring something fresh, new, and innovative show after show throughout the years. Not to mention that I would not mind having sex with approximately 90% of the ensemble... (not necessarily limited to males, and not necessarily separately or all at once... small groups would be fine, I'm sure...) I found the drummer to be particularly engaging, since his area was very easily in my line of sight. He was really good, fun to watch, and got to participate a lot in the show.

Last night I saw Brokeback Mountain with Stacy, Jesse, Kevin and Jessica in "The Dome" in Pleasant Hill. One, that theatre is indescribably beautifully huge with a wonderful sound system. Two, I'm glad I could see it with the aforementioned combination of people. Three, I loved it. As I attempted to explain to Andrew on the phone while driving home, Brokeback is a movie that really sticks with you and affects you. Whereas I loved every moment of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and could not stop ranting about it for days afterwards, I think that's more of a surface-level, entertainment value sort of quality in a movie.

I can't believe that we five were the only ones left in the theatre at the end of the credits. I could not possibly have moved any sooner. Driving to Dublin from Jesse's, Stacy put on the soundtrack, which is so so so gorgeous. [Sidenote: We totally saw Gustavo Santaolalla perform live with Dawn Upshaw when we went to see her in Davis in October. Who the fuck knew?] And of course, like I knew it would, this movie hit me right in the deepest, most emotional reaches of my chest. I haven't been able to get it out of my head - driving home last night, driving to SF and back with my mom and sister this morning... I keep having flashes of particular moments or scenes or impressions or feelings.

Anyway, I guess that's all I really wanted to say about that for now. I will be seeing this movie several times, that's for sure. As much as I enjoyed it (cinematic experience-wise) the first time, there is no doubt in my mind that I will fall in love with it even more each subsequent time, as I am able to notice more, take in more, and of course, understand more of Heath Ledger's lines.

Much love to all,
CK-

P.S. What do we think of the new background I made for LJ, MySpace, and my website?
P.P.S. I chose the picture of the original cast of Dreamgirls to be replaced by the Brokeback one that I was waiting to put in until after I saw the movie. While I do love that show, I'm not really familiar with the original cast except for Jennifer Holiday's performance on the Tonys, which, if you haven't seen, it is arguably the 8th Wonder of the World. Come to W. Bianchi Rd and you will be edumacated, child...
