The day I saw the previews to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie I ran out and bought the book and read it all and highly enjoyed it. I then went on to read "Restaurant at the End of the Universe", "Life, The Universe, and Everything", and I just bought "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish". I have yet to see the movie but I'm already dishearten by the reviews it's gotten so far. Sure they might be from disgruntled fans but there's also people like Roger Ebert who have no prior knowledge of Douglas Adams' works and didn't enjoy it either. Of course it's not supposed to be an exact copy of the radio play or its other incarnations so different things were added this time around which is a good thing but unlike the additions and changes Douglas Adams did to the series, which he was able to follow through by story's end, the movie basically forgets them and moves on. I'd still like to see the film to pass my judgment but I'll just have to enter the theater with low expectations which is quite sad seeing as how the previews were what got me interested on this memorable series in the first place.
