well, the typhoon passed and never really hit HK head on (just gave us a ton of wind and rain all day). today it's sunny and clear and not so obnoxiously humid. everything looks new again and it smells like an early spring day in ohio.

i feel like my mind is already starting to adjust to the idea of being back in the u.s. again. i've been talking (and really wanting to talk to) people from home a lot more and kind of dropping out of a lot of the regular stuff that i've been doing in hong kong. i think i'm ready to go, it's definitely time. plus, i'm beyond excited to start making plans for everything that's happening in the next few months and beyond. i have the feeling it's going to be a great summer too...after having been immersed in a new culture and society and always doing so many things that are foreign to me for so long it'll be great to live in a familiar place again and having a quintessential "American" summer -- at a camp!

i'm so sick of airports and public transportation and lines and customs and my ears popping during takeoffs and landings...none of it seems exciting anymore, just a big stressful hassle. i would always get mad at my dad for complaining about business travel to all kinds of places i thought i would love to go, but now i understand it more. it's not that the places themselves are the problem (they're usually amazing and wonderful and worth it), but the hassle of such frequent travel can be frustrating and unsettling. there's no constant. of course i don't regret going to any of the places i've been, but i am definitely ready to take a break and stay in one place for a few months. i can't wait to play tennis with my sister, walk my dog, go to matinee movies, sit outside on my deck, sit in coffeeshops and call the (surprisingly large) group of old friends who are going to be living in ohio this summer. who knows though, 3 days back in evil b-ville might be enough to make me want to leave again anyway.

meanwhile, my 3 full days left in hong kong look something like: today = avenue of the stars, final souvenir shopping, wandering around central / friday = big buddha, packing & cleaning / saturday = last minute packing, figuring out airport taxi stuff, hang seng hall party....
then all that's left is getting on a flight to new york sunday morning and being home in cleveland around 6:30pmEST. hopefully the time change won't screw me up to much, there's a lot i want to do in the week off i'll have before starting work.

ugh, jeez, sorry.
these updates are mostly to help me organize stuff in my mind...
i know they're really boring.
