The apartment on X's side of the Milliways front door is small but clean, furnished almost entirely in black IKEA. The kitchen is off to the immediate left, behind an angled doorway and separated from the living area by a small counter/wall. To the right is a coat rack, which happens to have a very beautifully embroidered reversible coat on it. ( Read more... )

'No problem at all.'

He's looking around with interest, fascinated by this insight into her life. Her apartment is...actually just like he imagined it would be. Neat and clean. He could never imagine X leaving a mess around. (Not at home, anyway. Missions night be different.)

'You like Nintendo?'

He's spotted the DS, though he only recognises the company logo. They were still on Game Boy when he left to go overseas and he hasn't followed their progress since he got back.

"It was a gift," X says, pausing halfway into the kitchen to look over her shoulder.

"From Zoe. In Milliways. I have not seen her for a long time."

That, too, is the trouble with Milliways.

But there are worse problems to have.

"My teammates like it a lot, too."

At least Elixir does.

He wanders over to look at it, interested. But doesn't touch, in case she doesn't like that.

'You mean you don't have Nintendo here? Or just that you didn't play until your friend gave you one?'

"I did not play until she gave it to me."

Beat.

"Computer games were not relevant."

They still aren't, but it's different. Kind of.

"I do not play much. But there are competitions. For high scores."

X is a little bit competitive. Sometimes.

She pulls a container of blood worms out of the freezer, then heads for the fish tank.

"You like them? Video games."
