I fell for Nick the moment he opened his mouth and out tumbled those gorgeous Scots words. And the attraction only grew over all three series he was in.
I love that his relationship with Helen is so complicated and never clear-cut. I love that he's loyal and kind and intense and smart and brave. And passionate.
He's half of my favourite Primeval pairing with Jenny or Claudia (though Matt and Emily come a really close second)
His and Lester's banter and snark always makes me smile and Nick has one sexy arse.

Whatever you might think about Dougie's unfortunate habit of bailing out too soon, you have to admit, he was perfect for the part - gruffly good-looking, young but not too young, and sexy without being blandly pretty.. And I liked the way he wasn't shown as being perfect, even when he was nearly always right. And who couldn't love his 'ooops! dinosaur' face when being confronted by a dangerous creature?
It's hard to remember now, but I think I had expectations of the show being mostly about Nick and Helen. Which I think might have been interesting, but not so much fun as what we got.
I never watched Primeval on a weekly basis because the schedule was just too erratic on OZ tv, so I got to mainline all 5 series together on dvd and that was awesome.
What we got was fun and touching and total squee. Nick's a complex character and very human if that makes sense. Very believable in a show that has an out-there premise. really, if the main characters hadn't been so believable and so likeable in their own individual ways, I don't think the show would have worked for me at all.
I suspect that I would have been more upset about the bailing out if I didn't have the next dvd and delectable Danny at hand, but it was still painful and I still did a lot of yelling "NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOO" at the screen.
I'm glad for once that I got spoiled, because i wouldn't even have had a drink to hand to soften the blow otherwise. Going into that without an inkling... oh my! :-O
I think for me Becker in black may have helped to soften the blow just a little too........
No, I'm a complete Nick fangirl and he's one of my favourites to write. Not that I write much Primeval beyond drabbles. But he always comes through loud and clear in my head - that lovely Scottish accent........*swoons*
It's funny, I remember I was going to slash Nick with Becker because Stephen was gone, but I hardly ever did, I went straight to Nick/Jenny instead. If they'd kept her, I might have ended up a Jenny/Danny shipper, too :-D
I thought there was lots of lovely potential for Jenny/Danny. It's something I'd like to write something for one day.
I hardly ever get teary in tv shows but when Jenny woke up from being frozen and said Nick's name, obviously having dreamed that he was there and it's Danny leaning over her instead........
I think I've written one piece of Jenny/Danny, but off-hand I can't recall when or where. And Jenny/Danny is the background pairing in my 'Freckles Don't Wash Off' series.
I never saw myself pairing Nick with Lester, either but I've done that a couple of times. Though I can't see them in a long-term relationship - I think they just like to fuck while exchanging banter.
I watched it again a few weeks ago and become completely sniffly.
I love that little exchange that Danny and Jenny have when they're driving along in the truck with mad Sir Richard or rather his fungus-covered monster self leaping around in the back. And Danny's words to her when he realises that she's leaving. I think he's rather fancied and admired her since Jenny stood up to him over Connor being put in jail.
Lester and Nick fucking and exchanging banter is fucking hot. And either one could top or bottom and now those images are making me somewhat lightheaded.......
