The Floppy Hair has landed...
Here we are at last in series 3, a less than happy place for a Cutter fan. Still the opening episode of S3 does have its moments. Cutter pulls off a heroic rescue with the help of a firehose (but why couldn't he have rescued Jenny, instead of a nameless cleaning lady?), recruits Dr Sarah Page to the ARC, and has a brilliant idea about the anomalies. He also does a lot of running around with a mobile pressed to his ear.
My biggest problem with this ep is that it feels like Cutter is no longer the real driving force behind the action. It's nice to see him working with Abby, and the scene between him and Jenny at the beginning, is a delight, but there's not much more of substance, and no real sense of continuity between this ep and the previous one - although we do get a flashback to Stephen - and Cutter and Jenny spend most of the episode apart, which is a big disappointment. As series openers go, it's good fun, but the writing is on the wall for our grumpy professor
I'm not terribly keen on Cutter's new look, either - the floppy hair is okay, but I hate the Belstaff jacket. Our Hero looks a little trimmer, though, and is still pretty tasty.
So what's your verdict on the New Look Cutter? And do you think the episode disappoints? While you're gathering your thoughts, feast your eyes on the blue eyes and floppy hair of Mark 3 Nick Cutter. He may not be quite the same, but he's still prettier than any evolutionary zoologist ought to be be!
