The dog barked furiously in the back yard. It seemed like this happened every night. She was typing away on the computer but could stand it no longer. Irritated at the interuption, she slipped her shoes on and grabbed the lesh. The dog was a hound mix and very strong, being always afraid he would get away, she put him on a lesh when she put him on and off his outside chain. Her name was Sam and she was almost 17. Her birthday was next month but she didn't seem very excited. Usually everyone got excited about their birthdays except the adults. Somehow in the past year she had quickly matured and found politics exciting instead of making friends or keeping the ones she had. She slowly made her way out the sliding glass door, leaving it open for when she let the dog in, and waiting for the motion lights to come on. Axel, her hound, barked angrily in the direction of the driveway. She told him to shut up but he showed no intrest in what she was saying what so ever. Suddenly he changed direction and ran towards the tree line by the road. 'It's probably just a cat.' she thought to herself discustedly. "Get over here." She yelled at him. Starting to walk towards where he stood barking he changed direction again. This time he ran towards the house but stopped short and barked at the roof. This scared her just a little. She had many daydreams about someone, a vampire in her mind, coming a wisking her away. But as this creeped into her mind she thought about all the other mythalogical creatures it could be, or real ones. Tiger, lions, lepards, all of these she knew didn't live around here but fear has a way of making anything possible. She grabbed the taught chain and shakily pulled it towards her. The dog wouldn't budge so she walked toward him, afraid of where he would run to next. Then he stooped. Became completely silent and sniffed the air. Cautiously he walked back toward the road and looked up into the trees. Then he turned toward Sam and wagged his tail and became excited to go inside like usual. Quickly she fumbled with the lesh and chain. Hooking the lesh and unhooking the two clips that held him to the chain. He pulled her toward the open door and she jogged toward it. Letting go of the lesh just as she got to theglass door, Sam hoped to quickly shut the door behind her and not have to wait fot Axel to get inside. But her fingers never made it to the handle. Never felt the warmth that the heated house provided. Just as she was about to touch the handle she stopped cold. The door was already shut. It had slammed shut all on it's own. She knew something was wrong. Knew that it would do no use to try to yank open the door. Something erupted inside her. Sam felt an explosion of heat spread out from her chest all the way to her head. Her feet went limp yet she did not fall. Something held her up. She looked down at her now blood covered chest. A sharp, jagged, twised, metal looking shard stuck out at an odd angle. She looked past it toward the pool of blood and it seemed like forever before she felt a sudden jerk backwards. She rose high above the earth and dissappeared into the clouds. Axel barked loudly at her vanishing form from his useless position on the other side of the glass. She thought of her friends, family, all the things she was supposed to prove in her life. She thought of herself as a dissapointment. How she had spent her entire life wanting a knight in shining armor and how this was the result of all her research of the supernatural. All her dreams being pulled away from her. A sense of depression, sadness and anger filled her as her body left the earth. But most of all, she felt lonely. All alone and forever alone. Sam, a girl with no boyfriend, no close friends, and no memories of happyness thought all of the things one would before death.
