Jennifer knocked on the door, her own few books on the law tucked under an arm.

She was way too glad she'd woken up feeling completely normal.

"Come in!" And she turned to roll off her bed to drag out the rest of her collection.

Jennifer entered, a smile on her face. "It's me," she said. "We should be able to get a lot done, today."

She pulled her blankets up neatly to make space on the bed for them both.

"That whole shelf down there is law," she said, pointing, "and then this stack here is too. What've you got?"

"Just some stuff I got from the library," Jennifer said. "Nothing too special."

"It all works," and she pointed to the desk.

"You can work there or you can sit on the bed with me. Whatever you like."

Jennifer sat at the desk. While she felt normal today, the whole Ellie-kissing thing was still fresh in her mind and she didn't want any sort of repeat.

"What made you decide to work for Miss Cabot?" she asked.

"I didn't want to work in food service," she said as she cracked open one of the texts.

"And I figured it would be good practice. What about you?"

"Good practice, too," Jennifer said. "I really am trying to go into law."

"I don't know what I'm going to do," she admitted with a sigh, looking at a page full of familiar text.

"It never really occurred to me, life outside of the apartment."

"Oh wow," Jennifer said. "Not even beyond your own doors? I can't even imagine."

"I had a job," she said, wincing just a little at the connotation she hadn't even realized was there, "but everything was just kind of... we did our homework, we went to work, we did our chores, we went to sleep. We never really thought of more than that. It was really hard to."

"Oh, sorry, I misunderstood," Jennifer said. "But... you've got lots of opportunity now, right?"

"Lots of opportunity," she said with a small smile, "and... more choices than I ever thought.

"What made you want to be a lawyer?"

"It's a... it's not a happy story," Jennifer said, looking down into a book. "But I can share it, if you want."

Fiona was quiet for a moment before finally shaking her head.

"If you want. I know people have complicated stuff sometimes."

Goodness knew she did.
