Chapter Two

Sakura stepped out of her apartment while she was still slipping into her sandals. She looked radiant in a yellow spring dress, with her hair tied up into a bun. She had sent a pigeon to Naruto, to tell him she was on her way.

Naruto had never been… looked upon as someone Sakura would ever date. He was always goofing off for attention and making noble promises that were sometimes extraordinarily silly. Like the time Naruto got down on his knees and promised Sakura he would find her a black lilac bush.

They were an extremely rare medicinal plant that had very many uses. Sakura had merely mentioned how cool it would be if she could use black lilacs while she trained with the Hokage.

Naruto researched the plant on his own, discovered they only grew on the inside of volcanoes, and went on a two month trek just to travel to the nearest volcano and get her one.

When he returned, Sakura and Tsunade both had to treat his burns, which had become severely infected on his journey home. He had lost a drastic amount of weight and when Sakura laid him down in the hospital that night, Naruto had slept for four whole days.

But… he had gotten the lilacs all the same.

Sakura grinned a little, looking up at the sun overhead, shining warmly down on the streets of Konoha. She was actually giddy to see Uzumaki Naruto. And she had just spent the last three weeks with him. That had to be something… right?

“Sakura?”

Sakura turned a little to look over her shoulder. Ino was walking directly behind her, a large bouquet of flowers in her arms. She was wearing a light pink dress that was awfully similar to Sakura’s yellow one. Her hair was down around her shoulders in golden spirals. Sakura thought she looked fantastic.

“Hi, Ino.” Sakura smiled and waited for the blonde to catch up to her, before continuing down the street.

“Wonderful start to our Springtime of Youth, isn’t it?” Ino sighed cheerfully, adjusting her flowers carefully in her arms.

“Yeah, it really is.” Sakura looked back up at the clear blue sky. “Going to go see Sasuke?”

Ino looked at Sakura for a moment, baffled. “No, he’s been telling everyone he’s seeing someone. I just assumed it was…” Ino nodded in Sakura’s direction.

Sakura stopped. “Sasuke’s seeing someone? He didn’t mention anything on our mission. He couldn’t just start ‘seeing someone’ after being back one day, could he?”

Ino shrugged. “Hey, I thought it was you, remember?”

Sakura frowned a little and continued on, picking up her pace. “Well, it doesn’t matter. I am visiting someone else for my Springtime.”

“Me too.” Ino nodded and for a moment, all the tension between the two seemed to dissolve.

“So, who’s the lucky g-“

“Hey guys.” Shikamaru strolled up beside them, giving them a bit of a smug smirk. Sakura and Ino exchanged looks briefly, before looking suspiciously towards the newly appointed Jounin.

“You look happy.” Sakura said slowly, grinning. She had a feeling that perhaps Shikamaru had already started his Springtime.

“Nah. Confident.” Shikamaru corrected, shoving his hands in his pockets.

“And why is that?” Ino asked with a bit of a laugh. She had spent her last Springtime in bed with Shikamaru. Ino hadn’t been a virgin at the time. Shikamaru had. It had been Ino’s first victory.

“Gonna bag me one. A virgin.”

Both girls erupted in laughter and Shikamaru lost his cocky expression rather abruptly.

“Psssh.” He hissed, scowling in their direction before rolling his eyes. “Girls.”

“You’re going to sleep with Hinata?” Ino breathed as she collected herself. The idea was so… off somehow. The two simply didn’t match up. At all.

“No. I’m not.” Shikamaru grumbled defensively, starting to walk noticeably faster. Sakura had to jog to keep up.

“But… there’s no other virgin girls in the village. That are seventeen anyway. Unless you want to sleep with someone younger?” Sakura narrowed her eyes in accusation and Ino was already opening her mouth to scream at the poor guy.

“NO! Geez!” Shikamaru was glowering at them now, good mood spoiled. “How troublesome.” He muttered, a faint blush rising in his cheeks. “I’m not going for a girl.”

Sakura and Ino actually bumped into each other because they stopped walking so abruptly. Sakura blinked a few times and Ino smirked.

“Don’t tell me it’s Chouji.” Ino grinned.

“Of course not.” Shikamaru sounded faintly disappointed. Just a little. “Besides, Chouji isn’t a virgin. He and Kiba’s older sister…”

The three friends continued to gossip all the way down the main street of Konoha, laughing and prodding at one another. They never noticed that they were all going to the same place.

Naruto sat impatiently, waiting for Hinata to sputter out what she wanted to say. She had been going for a good five minutes. He was waiting for someone to show up to interrupt her train of thought, but his luck hadn’t been so good this morning.

The blonde eyed the bowl of greenery still untouched on his kitchen table and shuddered inwardly.

“What I mean to say is that… well… I want to say… but no, that would be silly. That is… I mean…” Hinata poked her index fingers together, concentrating solely on her fidgeting. Naruto sighed and leaned back on the couch.

Hinata ‘eeped’ at this and blushed a deeper shade.

“Gai-Sensei told me… that, well, um…” Hinata slowly continued and Naruto cleared his throat.

“Hinata? Do you ever finish a sentence?” Naruto offered a tentative smile, in hopes that she wouldn’t take it hard.

But as expected, Hinata’s face glowed a crimson shade and she clasped her knees tightly. Naruto saw her knuckles turn white. He began to wonder if she needed a doctor and didn’t know how to ask.

“Hinata? Do you need to see someone?” Naruto tried his best to sound concerned because he was.

Hinata looked up sharply, as if he had slapped her. Her mouth hung open a little and she had a baffled expression on her face. It faded into a sweet smile after a moment though. “Why… yes. I do.”

Naruto didn’t think he had ever seen Hinata so happy, excited, and red before.

Girls are so weird. I don’t understand them at all. Naruto thought, propping his chin on his hand and raising his brows towards the Hyuugi girl.

“I’ve… needed someone… for so long. Naruto-kun…” Hinata sighed.

Naruto pondered for a moment, looking out the window. It had obviously taken Hinata a lot of courage to come over and ask Naruto for his advice. She was clearly uncomfortable discussing it. If Naruto knew anything about girls, it was that when they were short on details, they needed another girl to relate to. Naruto got an idea.

“I know someone who you can see!” He cried, “Sakura-chan! She has amazing medical jutsu skills. And she’s a good friend.”

Hinata was no longer red. In fact, all the blood had drained from her face and she was rather white. “Wh… what?”

“She’d be just the person you’re looking for, Hinata. And if not, maybe she can give you better advice then me.” Naruto laughed, scratching the back of his head. “She is smarter than me after all!”

“I… I… well… I mean, that’s not… what…. I mean…” Hinata stammered, staring wide-eyed at Naruto.

Naruto waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it. She’s on her way over, you can talk to her then.”

Hinata was just about to say she thought she needed to go home, when Shino stepped into the apartment, without knocking. Hinata gave a little wave and a sad smile. Shino stopped in his tracks, staring at Hinata a moment behind circular sunglasses.

“Am I too late?” As always, Shino was a shining example of a calm and cool headed shinobi.

“For what?” Naruto frowned a little.

Shino smirked beneath the collar of his high neck jacket. “Never mind." Shino turned slightly, to look at Hinata. "I wasn’t expecting you to be here as well.”

“O… Oh.” Hinata looked at the floor. “Did you come to talk to Naruto too?”

“No, not quite.” Shino was staring in Naruto’s direction, who stared back. “I’m here to take his virginity.”
