So, what have i been upto? Well as most of you know the big part my life is the prepareing to move in with Jenna, this is going well, the moveing in date we have is going to be the 30th of August and thank you to everyone who will be helping! we plan to have a house warming party around the start of october, this should allows us to actaul move in and sort things out and as we have a few events that month i suspect we might need it.
In other news i went to German larp! and it was stunning! lots of pictures are on Face book and the review i put up on rule 7 is behide the cut.
Its is True the event its self was brilliant.
The Event took place 20KM south west of Hanover between August 6th till 10th.
Total Number of players 4600
(yes that’s right, 5 days)
Upon Booking for the event you decide which “Camp” you which to be in. Each camp has a rating of Role-play, Plot, atmosphere and one other, were they is a a start rating. I believe the objective is to dertimed what you want from the game. Once decided, each camp has its own car Park and Entrance to the Gaming fields. You are allowed on site to unload vans, but a few hours before time in they must be taken to the Car park and left their.
All Weapons needed to be checked and character checked. Character creation was a simply tick box sheet, where the player ticks their skill and the ref stamps it to say yes.
At 8pm on the Wednesday there is a refer Brief were the Organised introduces the Camps Refers (or SL as they call them) and then the Refs Spend a while going thought the rules. (these are Translated if any of the groups do not have a Germany Speaker, as their was English, French, Danish in are camp it was translated into the international Language of English only) Time in Started at 9.30.
The Gaming fields were split up into a number of Area’s their were 9 camps in total. Air, Fire, Earth, Water, Priates, Orcs, Norsman, Free, Bad Guys. Each Camp had a fort. The players were expected to Build a fort and defend it. If the fort is captures, all PC booked for that camp, lose 1 hit point for the rest of the event. If you capture an Fort, you gain something. (don’t what as we didn't capture one) Once you have lost a fort, you must Seige it your self and capture it back. The Event was 24 hours Time in.
(we had to fight in a night shirts one morning at 7am)
There was also “the Town”. The town is a full IC trading Area, with Dozens of IC food stalls (including a baker were you can buy fresh Bread) An IC hospital, IC Grave Yard, half a dozen Taverns and about 20 - 25 traders. Their was also an Entertainment Area, with sitting Stands. The Town was very big and you could happily get lost in it. There was lost of plot going around in the town.
Each Camp had a Toilet and Shower block or Porter Loos as well as a washing Station. There was also a Generic Toilet and Shower Area in the middle of the Site. Their Was a supermarket that was restocked every day.
Combat Rules were Simple.
Every Weapon done Single. 2 Handed Weapons did knock back. Arrows Done Single Through. Hits were Global and Armour added to them.
The Event its self was very good fun, Lots happening in all the different areas,
Having 900+ Crew is a massive help as they could field a huge army on the Field, as well as hundreds of encounters for the camps. Their was also dream Visions and Dream Quests to be had. As well as Dungeon Crawls(and if you were luckily you could find the Dungeon Tavern, Although unless you had a map you had to search the maze to find it) The Format of the event was along the lines of the Big bad guys (the black Ice) had were capturing and Corrupting the Avatars( the leader of Each camp) in Managed to Kill Water (simulated by a gain water cannon firing from be hide the enemy camp on the players in the battle field, who were attracted to the camp by all the pretty lights, on the first night) and the player had to capture a round 20 banners that were position around the Enemy camp. Each Banner had a quest to complete. 10 banners were on the out side wall, and 10 on the inside, so on the Friday we destroyed the outer wall. Once we had the banners, We need to get inside their fort and place all 20 of the in the ground. So the Saturday we spent the whole day Seigeing it. This include throwing everything we had at them, Cannon, Catapults, Huge PC monsters, Battle Rams. While we almost broken the walls down, the enemy sallied out of the fort to beat us back…they cane in waves of 900…..and the included some Huge and horrible looking monsters. The fighting last a very long time. In the End…..We lost and the bad people won. This was good!
Later on the Saturday night their was a Unofficial ref Debrief Saying thank you. Time out was at midnight. The Sunday was Specifically for Packing down and leavening site. You could not collect your car, unless and ref had stamped you hand. He would only Stamp you had is you can Either Help with the Fort being taken down, or shown the ref, you had packed down you camp and only need to load the car (this was a brilliant idea as it stopped to many cars jamming up the field.
The Attitude of LARP over the water is brilliant as well. Everyone Fights Heroic, Everyone Swings their Swords in hugs Arcs, Everyone Reacts to damage unless their in armour and do when their Armour is gone. They are also Very Safe. The refs use a card system. If you are fighting Dangerously in their eyes they will warn you, if you do it again, you get a yellow card, were you must walk away from the fight and chill for 5 minutes. After that, nothing is held against you. A red one is you can not fight in the game again. So they are very Stern. I saw a yellow card issued. But never a red.
Kit standards were Very high, their average is higher than UK Average from what I have seen in the past 13 years. but they do have their bad costumes as well so still not perfect.
Good Points: Level of Kit, size of the event, the Replaying Standards, The friendly-ness of all the different Country's. The combat and Fights, The volumes of Crew and finally the Organisation of the Event Team.
Bad Points: Language. While finding the plot was easy, understanding it was hard, it often broke the role-playing when we were asked something and we had to stop them half way thought their speech saying “in English?”. Although most of us want to learn Germany for next year. The Fact its in Germany is a very bad points, its quite expense.
Overall, and stunning event. One the best I have been to in 13 years.
other than that, work seems to be intresting, they are paying me and the job is alright, would'nt mind a bit more money and to move in to manchester, the fact its 20 mintues walk form THIS house is good, but the new its not 20 mintues walk away and i would prefer to take the 10 mintues train ride.
Still Running warhammer Roleplay, this is going well, hope to finish the 3 book set off soon. Am Planing the second Campign now, just waiting for the last few books i need. Am also current playing a 4th ed at Parrs place....its very intresting, but i find i am treating like a MMG than a RPG.....buts its fun.....
