I want to kill someone....myself in first line that is...
I just wrote a whole fully detailed paragraph about it but I wrongly clicked on a link and everything vanished *shot myself*
At first, I felt like giving up but I guess I will try rewriting it all again *sigh*
It's been a while since I've last posted something in my LJ aha~
But this new release that I've been *looonng* expecting for a while, is worth having me comment on it (and also rewrite the whole thing twice...).
The original anime TV, Neon Genesis Evangelion, ran from October 1995 until March 1996, and add to those 26 episodes three movies (2 were released in 1997 and the last one in 1998).
Now, ten years later, we got Rebuild of Evangelion (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版,) !!!!!
It's a tetralogy of animated films obviously based in the anime series.
The first three movies will be an alternate retelling of the TV series, featuring new scenes, settings, backgrounds, characters, and newly available 3D CG technology, and the fourth film will present a completely new conclusion to the story.
Another stated intention of this series is for it to be much more understandable and accessible to non-fans than the original TV series and movies were.[source:wiki]
So! I've just finished the very first one, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:序, ) and I throughly enjoyed this 1h37min length film!
The plot covers the first 6 episodes of NGE and it goes from Shinji arrivals until the defeat of the fifth Angel.
I would have to be blind (or suffer from serious memories losses from when I watched NGE *many* years ago, I think I was 14-15 or something at the time aha~) not to realize that the storyboard of this movie was obviously heavily being shouldered by the original TV show's. But the quality of the images/graphics made a violent contrast with the original and showed that they really worked on it : the pictures were edited, tunned and redrawn. Same goes for the sounds. Definitely an enhanced version ! ^^
But that is not all! If those movies had *only* been about patching up old anime episodes after some editing, you wouldn't have me here commenting on it! It's a lot more understandable, the flow/pace of the anime was worked on too and while keeping the keys moments of the original work, they cleverly added up events and scenes also unfold differently. I would say that the more we advanced in the story, the more changes I could notice and finally, when we reached the final fight with the fifth Angel(Ramiel) at the end of the movie, I was pleasantly met with an *almost* total transformation and redesign of the whole thing! :D And I mean a good redesign! It was really powerful! XD XD XD
In the very last seconds, we saw Kaworu (Tabris), which in NGE didn't appear before episode 24!
It's a definite hint that the upcoming movies events will diverge even more from the original plot then this first movie already did.
The preview of the 2nd release (Evangelion: 2.0 Division ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:破) shows off Asuka Langley arrival, Kaworu's sequence and also the appearance of a new original character and a newly designed unit?! Same again : still following the original work, but 'rebuilding' it in the way.
Well, I won't be saying any more than this, I think I spoiled you enough aha~
My final evaluation is that it's definitely worth watching and can be enjoyed by both new fans or 'old' ones like me ^__~
The animation was great from start to end and I might even go as far as say flawless.
It was released by Nyoro~n Fansubs yesterday and I had a hard time downloading it : no direct link of course, no bots in their irc chan until the torrent was seeded (and no one sharing it in the irc chan either btw, so '!list' for triggers and ftps was useless...). And to make things worst, there wasn't not even ONE seed for the torrent T___T
Well, you lucky guys should be ok now : there are *TONS* of seeds (obviously, hundreds of people completed it almost synchronized at the exact same moment...) and you should have no problem getting it by torrent now, quickly. (it's 900mb btw)
Torrent file :
[Nyoron Subs]Rebuild of Evangelion 1.01 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE (DVD MP3 H264) What is great, is that it also includes a 10mb file titled 'Rebuild notes' with *interesting* translations notes (don't miss the translation notes of the 'seeing you' line from Kaworu ehehehe~) and sides notes/extras (like comparing between the original episodes and what was actually done in this new version and else)
Those snapshots are not meant to constitute an 'illustrated summary' of this movie: I simply selected some pics I liked, that's all ^^ they are in chronological order of appearance in the movie though.
