Not because the people therein are ugly, but because they're so HUMAN. Which sounds odd, I guess, but in some of the photos you can almost build a story for them. It's nice to see normal people celebrated, even on a small scale. :)
I'm going to have to dig out some old family photos when I go home again-- I remember an awesome one from the mid 90's where mom, dad, and I are all in matching sweaters... Hell, I think I'll put up an embarrassing family album here in a couple days, then I'll make all of you do it too. ;)
