David,
Thank you very much for the email. I wish there were something I could do to help you work this out. At this point my hands are tied, and as much as I would like to have you with us this weekend you are probably right about the legal issues. This late in the process we don't have the resources to
research it further before we leave.
I still need to check in the Dell Computer, SN #19833, and keyboard. I would appreciate it if you could bring it by the band office. You also need to come in and pick up your horn.
Keep in touch and let me know if anything changes. I will assume that you are not performing with us, and I will take you off the tour list.
David, and I mean this most sincerely, you need music, and music needs you. Keep practicing, keep writing, record, stay involved! Like I have told you before, many college directors would give their eye teeth for a student with your abilities and versatility.
I have very much enjoyed working with you over the past four years. I hope you realize how much you have contributed to the band program at Heritage, and also to the students who have passed through here. We are going to miss you, but I do agree that it is time for you to move on, and for others here to step up. If I can help you in any way, don't hesitate to call.
What ever you do, don't turn your back on your musical talent.
Your teacher,
Don Nelson
