In class, talking about global warming.
Guy 1: "Some people say we will just adapt to the changes."
Guy 2: "Yeah when I moved from up north to Georgia I had to adapt to the heat!"
Me: "That's got nothing to do with adapting....'
Guy 3: "Sure it does, it's called microevolution, it happens all the time and would only take a few generations."
Me: "It wouldn't take just a few generations to adapt to a whole new climate...."
Guy 3: "Yes it would, climate change is happening slowly anyway."
Me: "No..."
Guy 4: *snicker*
Ok, Guy 1. You didn't adapt to shit. You ADJUSTED to the heat, which has nothing to do with evolution, micro or other wise. Sure people around Lake Chad may be able to adjust to a 106 degree summer instead of a 105 degree summer, not that you would have any idea what that's even like, but they cannot adjust to having no food or water because the lake has dried up! Any microevolution that would enable them to adapt to eating the left over mud and dust would not happen "in a few generations," Guy 2. So snicker again or say something intelligent, Guy 3!
