Its irritating me that I cant the bullets to work in this like I want them to. So I'll do a page cut to save space instead. I'm bored and feel like rambling....
The girls had their Winter Dance Recital over the weekend. If LJ didnt suck I would be able to post pictures EASILY but I cant upload pictures from my computer. And I dont have any pics on my phone (which LJ does let me upload from). I just spent 15 minutes playing around with Dropbox to see if that would work... and it looks like it might... except ONE picture takes nearly 14 minutes to load?? Heh. And I just looked to see what I get with the account I just signed up for and its 2GBs of space. Yeah, that's like three pictures with my Nikon.... pffft.
Anyway, back to the recital.
It was cute. The girls didnt have costumes for the winter recital - for whatever reason their dance night in particular only did tee shirts and black stretch pants. This didnt bother me at all since it was less stress. They gave us the shirts a couple weeks before and we were in charge of black pants. At the recital Sophia's class got Rudolf ears and red noses painted on with lipstick. Maddie's class was given knit hats. It dressed them up a bit which was cute. I'm guessing since Sophia's class is the "Babies" (as they were introduced - Sophia is one of the oldest in the class at 4; there are some as young as just 2 in there too) and since Maddie's class is "Introduction to Dance" they made it easy for the newbie parents (Thank God; I have enough on my plate right now).
Sophia's class did a rendition of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. They were adorable. Most of them didnt know what to do or where to go. Some gave up halfway through. Sophia did all the moves but was behind a couple times. It was ADORABLE.
After Sophia's class was done, they asked that a parent come get them and bring them to the seats; then they could go up at the end for the final bow. Kevin came back with Sophia's head on his shoulder; she was nearly half asleep. She said she didnt feel good, and she did feel a little warm. She fell asleep for half of the rest of the show.
Maddie's class was number 11th in line and they did some Christmas song I have never heard of before. It was a joint dance with the Hip Hop class from a different night where the Hip Hop class came out first and did their thing (Maddie's class was lined up behind the curtain stage left and Maddie was the first to come out; before she did we could see her dancing along to the other class, it was cute). Then the Hip Hop class split and danced along the sides of the stage as Maddie's class came out and did a Tap number. (Maddie's class is an intro to Tap and Jazz).
Kevin woke Sophia up to see if she wanted to go backstage for the final bow and she said no... but we thought she might get upset if she didnt at least try. Kevin told her he would bring her in the back to get her bag instead and by the time he got her to backstage, she perked up and wanted to go on - but only if she got to be by Maddie. I dont think Maddie was too thrilled with it all cause she had to sit with Sophia in the front row of all the kids rather than stand with her class for the bow. But it worked out well. And from that point on during the day she didnt complain at all... I think she may have just been overwhelmed and all the adreneline and excitement drained her.
The funniest part... when they were all on the stage at the end, Miss Jane was making a little speech. The girl next to Sophia kept trying to stand up and run forward (the little girl was all of 2) and I could see Sophia telling her she has to sit and be careful. At some point, Miss Jane turns around and says to Sophia "Do you have something to say?" (which I still cant tell if it was bitchy or kidding around... I mean, Sophia was trying to keep the kid next to her from FALLING OFF THE STAGE... At the time it was cute and funny but now I'm kind of like... lady... you might want to figure out how to keep the tiny ones from running off the stage YOURSELF... but anyway...) Sophia shook her head and turned bright red. Miss Jane put the microphone up to Sophia and Sophia just sat there for a second then said "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" LOL
It was cute and got a laugh out of everyone.
After the recital our town was having their Christmas Parade so we walked a few blocks up to the main road and watched that. The girls ended up with a ton of candy - and a lot of good candy too. There was plenty of tootsie rolls and (cracked) hard candy (when we they learn that throwing hard candy just ends up a mess) but there was quite a bit of chocolate in their loot too.
Afterward, we headed home and everyone crashed. That was Sunday and we have never quite caught up from a busy weekend. We didnt do any food shopping this weekend so we're kind of just coasting by on our freezer stash - and take out...
Monday night I worked late and then stopped at the store on the way home for some Christmas gifts. By the time I got done - and then sat in a ton of traffic - it was too late to even attempt dinner so I picked up Burger King. Tuesday... Tuesday, Kevin had his work Christmas party and got home late. I made the girls eggs for dinner. And yesterday was Kevin's birthday so we ordered Chinese. Its been a pretty gross supper week - plus the pizza we had for lunch for my work Christmas party. Thank God I threw our dinner in the crockpot this morning and we'll be eating regular food tonight.
Yesterday after work I ran to the store with Maddie to pick up birthday cards for Kevin (nothing like the last minute or anything) and to get some wine for his coworkers. He needed to get it THAT NIGHT cause they gave him a birthday present at work (a really nice computer/rolling luggage type bag for when he's in the city) and he felt like a heel for not having anything for his staff. I told him he couldnt know that they were going to do that but he was pretty set on getting everyone a bottle each as a Thank You. So I picked up 6 bottles for him, then decided it would just be easier for me to do wine for my coworkers as well.
13 bottles of wine and $80 something dollars later... Granted when you break it down, each bottle was only about 6 bucks (I got my coworkers a different Barefoot sweet wine bottle each) but still... ugh... I hate gift giving in the office.
And today Maddie will be blowing through about 20 bucks to buy crap at the holiday bazaar... although the PTO already posted a pic on Facebook of some of the volunteers and the appreciation gift they got, which was a personalized Christmas ornament, was pretty nice - like the kind you would get at the mall kiosks. Maddie had the option to buy them as well for $3 each but I didnt know what they would look like. If they are the same ones the volunteers are, I wish I would have told Maddie just to pick those up as gifts. Instead she'll probably come home with crap :-\
I'm a little irritated though cause they sent home the volunteer sheet for the bazaar on Friday. The first day of the bazaar was YESTERDAY. I do NOT understand why they wait until the very.last.minute to ask for volunteers... and then they complain when they dont get any/enough.
While I probably COULD have asked for a half day today to go help out, its a crazy time of year right now. I didnt want to get my hopes up to ask and be turned down - especially with such short notice - plus its only a few days past closing and there are a lot of things due. If I knew a little more in advance, I would have more bargaining ground at work (which how much does that suck that I have to haggle for a freaking day...) but whatever. It just irritates me that they ALWAYS wait till the last second to ask for volunteers, then complain that they dont have enough. Its not like we're all sitting around waiting for something to pop up in life, but for some reason the PTO moms seem to think thats what we all are doing. Even for the moms (and dads if there are any) that dont work, I imagine that throwing something at them less than a week in advanced isnt ideal. I would assume that if you're a stay a home parent and have other kids in the house you would need to have child care covered. A working parent needs to be cleared for the day off. What the hell do these people not get??
Anyway, whatever. I'm probably more irritated by the fact that my boss just came over here to tell me that she's going home sick. She was out on Monday and Tuesday. She SAYS with an upper respiratory infection, but when she came in yesterday someone said something about how you're supposed to stay out of the office for 5 full days if you've had the flu. From that point forward, she stayed in her office all day with her doors only opened a crack. Today, she came in, finished up the financial submissions, and now just told me she's leaving for the day cause she still doesnt feel well.
The whole office is sick though. Everyone has some degree of ick and only a few of us (me included) are still well. I really dont want anything though! Aside from not wanting to be sick cause who the hell wants to be sick... we're having Christmas at our house next weekend. I have a shit ton to do this weekend to get ready for that, then to have everyone over... everyone who is sick needs to stay the hell HOME.
Ok, well now that she's left the building I guess I can get to working on some of the stuff I need to work on. I brought my christmas cards so I'm going to address those and hopefully get them in the mail this afternoon. Then I can work on all the lists of crap I have to do in the next few weeks.
I think Christmas should be in the summer when its easier to do all this stuff.
