I was just bitching about this propaganda (well, its source) the other day.
a.) Any site that refers to the 'death tax' or 'Obamacare' is clearly and obviously slanted and not very trustworthy.
b.) So, a lot of these cuts were temporary cuts put in place by previous administrations, who made them as temporary cuts (and, I note, made no attempt to balance the budget by cutting spending elsewhere.) Those temporary cuts are expiring. And somehow, that counts as a tax hike?
c.) The estate tax (a.k.a. the 'death tax') thing cracks me up. Republicans love to bitch about it. It doesn't kick in until someone's estate, after everything else is taken out, exceeds $1 million. It really, really only affects the very rich. But bitching about a death tax sure gets everyone up in a tizzy!
a) the source definitely is slanted. But they do have a handy link in the very first sentence to the The Joint Committee on Taxation's publication where you can fact-check.
b) Sure, it is just the expiration of a lot of the tax cuts. Technically not a tax increase. Step one.
Here is some more propaganda: “I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” --Candidate Barack Obama, Sept. 12, 2008
“If your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime.” --President Barack Obama, Feb. 24, 2009
But these still aren't tax hikes. And the previous administration never made any attempt to pay for these tax cuts. But, of course, no conservatives minded Bush's budget-busting ways back then, because Bush was a Republican.
Okay, okay, you're right. They aren't really tax increases. But I am still fully expecting some real tax increases in the near future. I am sure they will try to hide them or rename them or disguise them in any way possible but I have no doubt they are coming. I just hope nobody actually tries to go through with a VAT.
I am upset about those things. I just did not trust him during the campaign. He just seemed so slick and evasive (not that all politicians aren't liars some are just better at it). When he was elected I hoped I was wrong. And so far he has fulfilled my wildest nightmares, combining the worst of both worlds. I am just really really worried "what is next?". And seriously, that is why I associate with those "redneck, racist, inbred mo-ron teabaggers". They are not actually all as stupid as you think. Maybe I just know the good ones.

You said it right there. Do you seriously think any of the other politicians were any better? Or Bush? Or Clinton?

We've had Congress all these years, and yes, they've been this goofy for a long time. Why is Obama worse? And, what's the choice

There are some people who had some ideas. I will have to try to locate them when I have the time (maybe the weekend). Personally I think the country is just screwed and we are trapped in a downward spiral. I wonder what will happen when we "hit bottom".
People have been saying we're in a downward spiral for years now. We survived the Bush administration turning record surplus into record deficit. And they said we were headed for the bottom in the 70's. And the 60's, tearing our moral fabric apart. And the 50's. And the 30's.
America's been through a bunch, and I have faith we'll be just fine in ten years, so we can bitch about whoever is in office then too.
I never said I thought it was a fast downward spiral! Surely it has been going on for half a century plus! I may well be dead and gone (hopefully) before it really goes to the dogs.
Whereas I think the country is in dramatically better shape than we were fifty years ago.
Economically, yes, we're in dire straits, but that comes and goes. But, socially, we've improved leaps and bounds, and we have a lot more going for us.
Well for one thing, he is not the "Tea Party Leader". And he's and idiot. So? This is hardly definitive proof that the whole thing is a racist movement.
He's the former chairman and current spokesman for the Tea Party Express and Vice Chairman of the Tea Party Express' parent political action committee: Our Country Deserves Better PAC. That doesn't qualify him as a Tea Party leader?
Oh, he is definitely a leader of the Tea Party Express but many of the articles I browsed through were labeling him "The leader of the Tea Party". So I was just clarifying that. Some of the articles did refer to him correctly (basically what you posted).

I'd rather be upset with things he is doing (defending Bush-era rights abuses, prosecuting whistleblowers) than things he might do in the future.
