This is a comparison of my Meralco bill for this month and last year's bill for approximately the same time frame.

Generation chrg 4,487.07 (48.2%) 3,517.93 (46.7%)
Transmission 499.18 (5.4%) 663.96 (8.8%)

Distribution charge 2,607.44 (27.9%) 1,988.58 (26.4%)
Subsidies 119.70 (1.3%) 92.17 (1.2%)
Tax 972.16 (10.4%) 700.41 (9.39%)
Universal Charges 80.74 (.9%) 32.04 (.4%)
TOTAL: 9317.65 7529.60
Consumed: 805kwh 805kwh
My Meralco bill went up by P1,788.05 or 24%. I had the same consumption as last year. This year we had a series of brownouts or power outages. Can anyone explain this?
Can anyone explain why our generation charges went up? Why should we be paying for system losses that Meralco incurs when this is part of the risk of doing business? Meralco likes to pin the blame on the power producers. But the distribution charge of Meralco went up by 32% vs the power producers increase of 28%. What are these subsidies and these universal charges they like to tuck into the bill? Who are we subsidizing?
I am utterly baffled on why the power producers charges us a higher rate when we have brownouts?
It does not make sense! CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME????
