[For Neville Longbottom] I love to work at nothing all day....

Jul 25, 2013 20:10

Another typical morning in the office of the Shadow Angels, and Tsuzuki is puttering with the tea kettle, making tea before sitting down to another stack of "nothing much to report" reports. It's starting to turn into a running gag and he's more than glad for anything to break up the tedium. Anything at all (short of Morgoth's shenanigans), even ( Read more... )

Well, Neville certainly has something interesting to report. He taps on the office door before entering, presuming someone will be manning the desk. He's glad to see it's his old friend, Tsuzuki. He was the first person Neville met at the Mansion, after all.

He eyes the tea before taking a seat across the desk. He might be smirking softly. "Can I tear you away from that stack of reports for a few?"

Thanks for starting! <3

Tsuzuki looks up from the teapot, a smile of relied crossing his face. "Oh, Neville, hey there," he says. Then with a glance at the reports, he adds, "You have no idea how much I want to get away from that boring stuff. Something up? I'd take most anything for a diversion."

Heee, glad to make ye post!

"Then do I have a diversion for you," Neville can't hold back the chuckle. Another glance at the teapot. "Might I have a cuppa?" he asks. He's an Englishman after all, and can't resist a pot of tea.

"It seems we've got two new recruits, volunteers though I suspect they'd be our helpers whether we like it or not," he begins, settling back in the chair.

"Sure thing! I made plenty," he says, looking for a clean cup.

"New volunteers? That's welcome news, indeed," he says, taking up the humming kettle off its hotplate and filling the teapot. "After all the trouble we had during the winter, we could use as many eyes on this as we can get. So who are the happy helpers?"

"It's not welcome news," Neville disagrees and he sighs a little. He's actually kind of worried about the little girl and her -- friend.

"It's a child and a talking unicorn. With a telescope." He's completely serious.

He'll raise an eyebrow. "A talking unicorn? Haven't seen one of those around here, but nothing should surprise me. Who's the kid? I might know her..."

Neville pulls out the paper with the pairs' application, sliding it across the desk to the other man. "A talking unicorn with excellent penmanship," he remarks wryly.

"A talking unicorn with excellent -- what?" he asks, his eyebrows rising. "Okay, I shouldn't be surprised, a place like this where most anything is possible. But penmanship? How does she write without any hands?"

"Things just kind of -- hover in front of her hooves," Neville admits, a look of amazement on his face. "I can't explain it any better than that." He shrugs. "Sophie has parental figures here. I want to talk to them and let them know of their activities. And our monitoring of it."

"Levitation spells? Those are tricky: they need a lot of concentration," he notes, as if speaking from the voice of experience. "I guess we'll need to have a word or two with Sophie's family: I've met her, but I don't recall that I've met her folks, but she has talked about them."

Neville looks a little confused. Levitation spells were a first year class at Hogwarts, and while they require concentration, they're basic wizarding education. Still, that's really not the point here.

"I'm really concerned what trouble they might get into with this. Which is why I didn't tell them no out of hand. I figured it would be safer to have them reporting to us, and that we monitor their activities. They both seem really determined." Neville runs a hand through his hair. "I'll make a point to speak with Sophie's parents soon. So they can monitor them too."

"Good call, especially in a place like this," Tsuzuki replies. "You never know what's going to happen here, the best of times. Still, it is better if we're keeping an eye on them, rather than leaving them to their own devices.
And since one of them has magical gifts, they'll make a good team: Twilight Sparkle can protect Sophie if things get hairy. We've got unicorn-like creatures called kirins where I come from: they're honorable and they protect the innocent, but they're fierce and strong when they have to be.

"You want me to come along, when you talk to Sophie's folks?"

Neville shakes his head. "Nah. I figure if two of us show up, they'll get unnecessarily worried, as if Sophie and the unicorn are in trouble," he replies. "I just wanted to make sure they know what the pair are up to, reassure them we're not giving them anything dangerous and are trying to protect them," he adds with a smile.

He might blush ever so slightly before continuing. "I, ahh, wanted to thank you too, while I'm here. For assigning me to work with Zhane during my watch hours."

"Ahh, gotcha: thought I'd take the time to meet her folks, but you got a really good point," Tsuzuki replies, nodding, understanding.

"He's a great guy, isn't he?" Tsuzuki replies, noting the blush, but saying nothing of it, just yet. "Figured he'd be a good match for you on watch: he asked for you specifically, so I was only too happy to put you on the same slot."

Neville might sit up a bit straighter at hearing that. Zhane had asked to work with him, specifically. He kind of wants to beam, but resists the urge. It's good to hear, that Zhane sought his company. And they do work well together.

"Well, I appreciate your giving him his request," Neville answers. And before he embarrasses himself, he jumps to another topic. "How was the drive to recruit? Did you fill all the empty slots?"

"He was really enthused about working with you, so who was I to resist a request like that?" Tsuzuki replies, grinning. "But about recruiting: we managed to fill the empty slots, but I'd like to get a few more people in, here and there, to make doubling up easier. Things being what they are, it doesn't hurt to have two pairs of eyes and two pairs of boots on the ground. Or the carpet, I guess," he adds with a chuckle.
