Maybe "the invisible guy who leaves footprints in the snow when he goes for a walk in the woods". I need to work on that, maybe the elves can share their secret. If I could actually talk to them. Yes, there is something that shuts me up, and that is the elves and how beautiful they are. I've been feeling a bit homesick, so I've been out and about for long walks, watching some of the other guests here and lurking a bit while I'm veilled. You learn a lot that way, but no doubt there's some who can see right through the veil. I just hope no one takes offense to that.
It's been almost a week since I got here, and I've settled in fairly well: I've had some... rather revealing chats with Robin over a few drinks; I don't think he means me any harm, but I'm doing my best to keep him at arm's length. I've met a fellow by the name of Satan (I think that's how it's spelled), and while I don't think he's *that* Satan (whom I've heard is in charge of some of the nastier spots in Hell), he's kind of creepy and genial at the same time, like that English actor in those old horror movies. Cal's brother Niko introduced himself to me, but I think my chatter ticked him off; let's hope I can make amends to him in due time: I wouldn't want to be on his bad side.
Well, I'm off to the kitchen to find some tea, then back to the library to curl up with a book. I just started reading "Northanger Abbey" and I've been trying not to chuckle over it: I've known girls who got some pretty strange notions about things that go bump in the night, and if they knew half of what it's really like, they'd be surprised.
